When accusations of piracy and mass murder are laid against his homeworld, Damien Montgomery is sent to resolve the crisis. As counteraccusations fly and an old flame reenters his life, the newest Hand of the Mage-King of Mars finds himself in the midst of a bloody interstellar shadow war. With the death toll mounting, Damien must decide whether he should trust the world he came from - or the world that asked for his help. The wrong choice will trigger a civil war that could shatter human civilization. No pressure.

I've been waiting for many months and was thrilled when I saw it finally show up in Audible.com. I wasn't disappointed and generally enjoyed the book but I was hoping for something less predictable. There was the usual encounters with other mages challenging Damien's abilities and authority and the subsequent near death encounters along with the political intrigue along the way but most of the characters, including Damien, seemed less interesting than in the previous books. Even the main antagonist was simple to determine very early on.
With that said, the writing was still very fluid and the narration still well recited (except for a nit with Damien sounding demanding and slightly arrogant even when he intended his declarations are meant to sound soft.)
I loved the two previous books about the jump mage and his powers. This one was about him corralling a bunch of politicians from starting a war. The plot was so predictable and the politicians were so stupid, in the end you wanted them to just get over it. All of this would be prevented if the politicians would speak to each other. Then there would be no book
Love: Dresden Files, Super Powereds
It nicely blends magic and space travel. i like the fact that we have a hero who has power and actually doesn't mind USING it. Yet, he has limitations as well.
I'll for sure purchase the next in the series.
This has been such a fun trilogy! The opening to this book is captivating and the entire book feels like Damian Montgomery is facing impossible odds. Hearing these words is so satisfying: "I speak for Mars; will you listen?!"
Wonderful! Damian Montgomery is soooo dynamic. I love his style and he is so matured in his handling of the case. He is very powerful and uses his power with wisdom. A truly admirable protagonist. I love this serie very much and Jeffrey Kafer is excellent in his performance of all the different character. I like Damian's voice, very confident. I hope Mr Glynn Stewart will continue this series for a long time. I will be waiting anxiously for book four to come out ASAP.
I'm a computer Tech / Electronics engineer and I love developing technologies... So I love to read sci fi for development ideas.
good storyline, believable characters, and good narration.... so hurry up with the next book love it.
Great sci-fi with a twist of magic. The book has loads of pace while it twists and turns all the way to the end. Original in so many ways but not so far out in left field as to leave the reader behind. If you are looking for a good sci-fi book that's got loads of action without being pretentious, read this and the others in the series. Great fun :)
A big thank you to the author for bringing something new to the table, a joy to read !
it is a really great follow on from the first 2 books and has a great lead on to the the 4 (hopefully soon) book
