Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the fourth novel of the Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan must pay his debts to cunning trickster god Coyote, a task that includes battling undead creatures of the night as well as a relentless hound of Hel and the goddess of death who commands it.

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”—SFFWorld

Cutting a deal with a trickster god rarely goes well for any human brave or foolish enough to try it, but Atticus doesn’t feel like he has a choice. With members of the Norse pantheon out for his blood, he can’t train his apprentice in peace, so he asks Coyote to help him fake his own death. The cost, however, might wind up being every bit as high as if he’d made no deal at all.

There are things hiding in the Arizona desert that don’t want any company, and Coyote makes sure they know Atticus has arrived. And then there's the hound of Hel, Garm, who’s terribly difficult to shake and not at all convinced that Atticus is dead.

Being tricked by a trickster is par for the course. But it’s the betrayal from someone he thought was a friend that shakes Atticus to the core and places his life in jeopardy. The real trick, he discovers, might be surviving his own faked death.

Includes Kevin Hearne’s novella “Two Ravens and One Crow”

The Iron Druid continues to impress

What did you love best about Tricked?

Tricked is a great story. I have fallen in love with this series and the last installment is as good as the earlier ones. The whole series is a perfect choice to listen to while you walk or do whatever it is you do to decompress from a stressful day.

What did you like best about this story?

The strength of this story, and the series as a whole, is the interplay and chemistry among the characters.

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

Oberon...hands down. He is a great tool to add some levity and spark to the story. It makes me wish I could talk to my dog.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

At times the book is laugh out loud funny; which can be emberrasing if you are listening at your local coffee shop. Not that it happened to me (blushing)...

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, or anything of the genre, this series is a great next choice, and a good find.

These Chronicles will blow you away

What made the experience of listening to Tricked the most enjoyable?

When Kevin Hearne sits down to write a book, two things are apparent that comes through in his writing. He writes for the reader who can identify quick (often obscure) references to retro and current culture, without jarring away from the story. He also writes from his own spontaneous thoughts, which is apparent in conversations between Atticus and Oberon. These ways of writing are similar to a stream of consciousness, and reads (is read) well in today's tech immersed, up to the second connected culture.

What did you like best about this story?

The bugs, oh the bugs!

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator often is the 'make or break' component in an audiobook. I choose to listen to books over reading them based on this choice. After listening to Luke Daniels bring to life the most exciting literary series since "The Gunslinger" by Stephen King, I couldn't imagine anyone else finishing the series. His nuances in the delivery of lines brings out the quick wit of Atticus, and the inquisitive nature of Oberon. His performance is so good, you do not have to work hard to imagine what these characters even look like! Brilliant!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Oberon's loyalty to his master. Teared up, for real.

Any additional comments?

I sincerely hope that the publishing company extends the 6 book contract out to include Kevin's vision to make a complete 9 book series. We can start a petition if needed! =)

Another Great Story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes!The sequels in this series keep delivering. You never know who'll become friend or foe. Me like.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the way they portrayed Coyote. I couldn't figure out what's his angle. Is he a friend or someone who says the right things because he needs something. Speaking of friends, What a great twist with the vampires. Loved it.

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

Gotta be the wolf hound. I love his interaction with everyone. God it's really funny. Keep it up. Oberon.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The vampire scene in the hotel. Man I was pissed.

Worth waiting for...

What did you love best about Tricked?

It was not predictable and it picked up right where Hexed left off. Atticus seems to find himself in one adventure after another. The use of mythology is awesome. This is the chronicle that never ends, there is always something new and unexpected happening. I LOVE Oberon.

What other book might you compare Tricked to and why?

I can't, this series is not like anything I have listened to before. It is unique and thus even more entertaining.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, and I was impressed by his perfomace in this book and the last three in the series. Each caharacter has its own voice and personality. There is no confusion about which character you are listening to like some other books I've listened to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! You never know what will happen next and how Atticus will deal with it. Characters and events seem to be tied together in one way or another which keeps the reader thinking and wondering...

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next Kevin Hearne book!

5 stars seems to little

Would you listen to Tricked again? Why?

Yes, I will probably listen to the whole series again.

What did you like best about this story?

What doesn't I like?
one thing I will drag out is the insight into the Navajo mythology.

One of the the best thing about this series is that we get a small insight into different mythologies. Especially relative unknown like Navajo and Celtic (Irish) tho. the more common known Norse also plays a big part in the overall story thru. the books.

Have you listened to any of Luke Daniels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listen to all the books in the series and Luke Daniels's performances is just as good as in the other books. He really gives the characters life. .

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

moved me hmmm.. it's strong words. there is a moment were I feared that someone might have died, which scared me a bit. (won't go into details) But mostly I just sit with a big smile on my face.

Any additional comments?

The only bad thing about this book feels so short. The pace of the story makes time fly and I had to stop listen a few times just to make the book last a bit longer because you just want to keep listening. And if that's not enough, then you get a sneak peak on the first chapter of the next book in the end and it just make the waiting time for book 5 even more painful.
