Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the fourth novel of the Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan must pay his debts to cunning trickster god Coyote, a task that includes battling undead creatures of the night as well as a relentless hound of Hel and the goddess of death who commands it.

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”—SFFWorld

Cutting a deal with a trickster god rarely goes well for any human brave or foolish enough to try it, but Atticus doesn’t feel like he has a choice. With members of the Norse pantheon out for his blood, he can’t train his apprentice in peace, so he asks Coyote to help him fake his own death. The cost, however, might wind up being every bit as high as if he’d made no deal at all.

There are things hiding in the Arizona desert that don’t want any company, and Coyote makes sure they know Atticus has arrived. And then there's the hound of Hel, Garm, who’s terribly difficult to shake and not at all convinced that Atticus is dead.

Being tricked by a trickster is par for the course. But it’s the betrayal from someone he thought was a friend that shakes Atticus to the core and places his life in jeopardy. The real trick, he discovers, might be surviving his own faked death.

Includes Kevin Hearne’s novella “Two Ravens and One Crow”

The story is entertaining, and the reader talented. what, exactly, do you think optional means?

Perfect Marriage between material and reader.

What made the experience of listening to Tricked the most enjoyable?

Great story, perfectly read. Good combination of action, fantasy, and humor. I really like that there are rules to the magic and the exposure to all the different pantheons is fascinating.

What did you like best about this story?

Too many favorite parts to pick just one.

Which character – as performed by Luke Daniels – was your favorite?

I loved all of them, but Oberon makes the whole series work.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed out loud several times. I really appreciated the Doctor Who reference as well as the Princess Bride quotes.

Any additional comments?

Some relationship changes in the last book and this one. While I see how they were necessary, they were uncomfortable and sad - a sign that I am falling in love with the characters. Well written, well read.

Pleasantly Surprised

Any additional comments?

I avoided this book for a while because of mixed reviews, however I really enjoyed this Iron Druid book. There were a lot of talk about "eco-terrorism" from other reviews, but I didn't think it took away much from the overall storyline. Luke Daniels is great again.

Narration was off

Would you be willing to try another one of Luke Daniels’s performances?

The book is fine but Daniel's narration is off. The characters voices are either too low, Atticus or too high, Oberon... and also the pacing seems a bit off as well. I think I know why, Brilliance Audio did the produced the first 3 books and Random House produces this one. It's almost like listening to a new narrator. I maybe nit picking. The narration on audiobooks can make or break a book.

Awesome story and Great series!

I have really enjoyed the Iron Druid books. The story line and character development is very good. I like the way the author has used the ancient Irish god lore system is quite refreshing. We normally get story line in more common know systems. I really enjoy the way the main character inter acts with his Irish Wolf Hound. You can tell he is a dog lover. This new book continues the growth of characters and story. It was over way too soon. The add chapter from the next book just makes you want it now. The narrator is great also; he really does a great job.
