Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In the fourth novel of the Iron Druid Chronicles, two-thousand-year-old Druid Atticus O’Sullivan must pay his debts to cunning trickster god Coyote, a task that includes battling undead creatures of the night as well as a relentless hound of Hel and the goddess of death who commands it.

“[Kevin] Hearne is a terrific storyteller with a great snarky wit. . . . Neil Gaiman’s American Gods meets Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden.”—SFFWorld

Cutting a deal with a trickster god rarely goes well for any human brave or foolish enough to try it, but Atticus doesn’t feel like he has a choice. With members of the Norse pantheon out for his blood, he can’t train his apprentice in peace, so he asks Coyote to help him fake his own death. The cost, however, might wind up being every bit as high as if he’d made no deal at all.

There are things hiding in the Arizona desert that don’t want any company, and Coyote makes sure they know Atticus has arrived. And then there's the hound of Hel, Garm, who’s terribly difficult to shake and not at all convinced that Atticus is dead.

Being tricked by a trickster is par for the course. But it’s the betrayal from someone he thought was a friend that shakes Atticus to the core and places his life in jeopardy. The real trick, he discovers, might be surviving his own faked death.

Includes Kevin Hearne’s novella “Two Ravens and One Crow”

Another Great One

Just give it a few minutes and you'll fall in love with Atticus, Oberon, and Granuaile.

This installment, though not my favorite in the series, does a good job in wrapping up the loose ends from Hammered and really expands on the incredibly interesting character of Coyote. Leif makes an interesting turn in this book and really sets up nicely for some great possibilities later in the series.

And as always, Luke Daniels provides an impeccable performance that really pulls you in. But that's a given to any faithful follower of him and this series.

Another great addition to the series!

Would you listen to Tricked again? Why?

Yes. If you enjoyed Hexed, Hunted and Hammered, you will enjoy Tricked. The dialog was what I have come to expect of Kevin Hearne. This book is a fun listened. It was very enjoyable. It is as light-hearted as the previous books.

Any additional comments?

This book has a chapter of the next book in the series. That was a nice addition; I enjoyed the chapter.

If you are like me and are constantly looking for a new series and have done the greats - Robert Jordan (The Wheel of Time), Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archives, Mistborn, Elantris, War Breaker, etc), try James Campbell's Lost Fleet Series - he has continued this series with Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier. So far, the new series is as promising as the Lost Fleet Series.

I recently read a series by Ilona Andrews - the first book in the series is "Magic Bites." It was an interesting series. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer was also quite interesting.

If there is a series you enjoyed, please share it. Thank you.

Best One So Far

What did you love best about Tricked?

Everything! The story was great. Oberon was even more hilarious than in previous books. Atticus was real, and funny, and interesting. I laughed out loud by myself repeatedly, even though I was alone listening to the story on my commute.

What does Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration is brilliant. It is so well done. I love the characters even more because of the way the narrator portrays them. The humor is really enhanced by the reader. Love him.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this entire series to anyone who likes to have some humor with her mythical gods and goddesses adventure stories. And to anyone who is interested in myths in general. The lore around all the characters is woven so well into the story that you hardly notice you are getting a mythology lesson. I'm jealous of people who are only just now finding this author and this narrator. They have some great listens awaiting them.
