Publisher's summary

Master spies Seregil and Alec are no strangers to peril. Their assignments, night running for wizards and nobles, have led them into many deadly situations. But sometimes the greatest danger can lurk beneath a traitor's moon.

Wounded heroes of a cataclysmic battle, Seregil and Alec have spent the past two years in self-imposed exile, far from their adopted homeland, Skala, and the bitter memories there. But as the war rages on, their time of peace is shattered by a desperate summons from Queen Idrilain, asking them to aid her daughter on a mission to Aurenen, the very land from which Seregil was exiled in his youth. Here, in this fabled realm of magic and honor, he must at last confront the demons of his dark past, even as Alec discovers an unimagined heritage. And caught between Skala's desperate need and the ancient intrigues of the Aurenfaie, they soon find themselves snared in a growing web of treachery and betrayal.

Now one of my favorite series

This series only gets better and better. I can’t wait to finish it but also dread it. Definitely will read again.

This could have been one of the great ones but...

This book series was excellently written, sadly the author chose the main characters to be homosexual. This part made some of the passages a little uncomfortable to read. It also insured that my 12 year old son who loves reading Fantasy books with me, will not be listening to this anytime soon. It is a nice trilogy and if your very open minded you will enjoy it. It is sad because this could have been one of the most popular books had the author toned down her message.

Left a bad taste

It seemed that the development of the characters took a while, especially when sidetracked with the lustful remembrances of the primary male character and his male companions. Narration, by Raymond Todd, was excellent and would thoroughly enjoy other books read by him. If you, as a reader, are interested a romance novel meets Village Voice, meets the lord of the rings, then this novel is for you.

Explicit Homosexuality

Buyer Beware. This could have been a fun read and good story… but I wish that I had been aware of the blatant homosexuality going on throughout the series prior to purchasing. The unfortunate thing is that the sex thing going on between the two main male characters has very little to do with the plot and/or story development and could have (should have, in my opinion) been left out. Book 1 merely hints at this, Books 2 and 3 are explicit.

Disappointing

I enjoyed the first two books of this series. They told a story and kept the listener captivated with twists and turns. This book should never have been written. It is more of an indulgence to the writer than a treat for the listener. Why do I say this? Primarily because there is not much action nor does it advance the story. It is basically a side story that could have been done in a chapter or two and did not need an entire novel. Since I do not want to give away the story I cannot go into much detail other than to point out that the only purpose for this book is to give you background on the Aurenfaie. This book also ramps up the gay love affair between Seregil and Alec. If you had a problem with this in the previous books then you will will definitely not be able to handle this. I personally do not care about this as long as the story is good. Unfortuantely it was not. An hour or two of backstory is fine but Bilairy's codpiece not 20 hours! Sorry I just needed to work that phrase in somewhere. I am hoping that my time spent listening to this was not wasted and I will be rewarded in some way with the fourth book. The author is clearly gifted and can spin a good tale but needs to remember that people pay money for this and expect more than just character development.

Raymond Todd ruins it

It was a struggle to get through all the mispronounced words. Persisted in pronouncing quay like kuay, not key. killed me inside
