Publisher's summary

Time is a resource. Everyone knows it has to be managed. On Discworld that is the job of the highly capable Monks of History, who store it and pump it from the places where it's wasted (like underwater - how much time does a codfish need?) to places like cities, where there's never enough time. But the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time, for the monk Lu Tze and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin.

Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best.

This multi-voice production features Christopher Cazenove, Gabrielle de Cuir, Karesa McElheny, John Rubinstein, and Stefan Rudnicki, with a guest appearance by Harlan Ellison.

Dated audio

As with all Pratchett novels, the story is excellent. That said, the narration sounds like this was copied from cassettes.

Multiple actors do not make for a better experienc

Great story as per Discworld usual.

Multiple voice actors, sometimes multiple actors portraying the same character (Igor), takes away from the overall performance.

Another excellent one.

Another excellent, ever- surprising yarn from Terry Pratchett. Yes, grasshopper: there is always time for a perfect moment. Nanny Og even makes a cameo appearance!

Amazing story, disappointing performance

The characters and story in this book were inventive and fun; a classic Pratchett novel with laugh out loud moments and thoughtful pauses.

The only disappointment was the performance, which was uneven and well below what I have come to expect with Briggs and Planer. Some of the performers were very good (especially the one in charge of the Lutze), but having at least one major character be read in an American accent was unfortunate (I’m American, but Pratchett should be read by a native).

Overall, a very good book and highly recommended.

True Pratchett Style

I love this story line and Try Pratchett' s wonderful style and art of telling a tale.
The different performers was interesting but at times distracting.
Still loved every minute.

musical reading

I happen to love this rendition. It fits the mood of the story, and I think it flows really well. It is quite mythical. I have been reading the books for over 15 years and was quite excited to find the audio versions. I had listened to some of the previous ones, and was quite disappointed. This vindicated my 'waiting'. Just be prepared to listen as to music and to a song-----

Great story, patchy narration

Love this book, especially the Abbott. Typically imaginative, funny discworld crisis. How unfortunate that Gabrielle de Cuir narrates Susan's voice. She is absolutely appalling. I disliked her narration of Ender's Game. One totally untalented narrator really brings down an audiobook quality. What a shame. I really wonder why she continues to be employed.

Unique, an entire cast offers more

I found the novel to up to Pratchett's high standard. Studded with satire and dry wit this is a must read. My only minor complaint is the actor that portrayed Death did not have the same presence as some of the other audiobooks in the long Pratchett line. I can only hope that Audible and ISIS can come to an agreement and restore all of this wonderful writers work.

A bit hard to follow

another great story from Terry Pratchett, marred only by the odd mix off talented actors who read one another's parts.
