What do you do when everything you've ever known is ripped away from you, leaving nothing but ashes and charred memories behind? You get angry. So very angry.
Malwynn and his twin sister, Umaryn, live in a small town in Northern Varrland. In idyllic New Picknell nearly nothing happens, and when their day-to-day routine is interrupted by a skirmish between an invading patrol of the dead from The Amaranth Empire and a defending force from Varrland, their world begins to come undone. With international war looming on the horizon, New Picknell becomes the center of quite unwanted attention, and the twins have their world shattered. With nothing left to lose, they set out on a mission of vengeance that will take them to places they'd never dreamed of visiting, discovering mystical powers in The Way that will change their lives forever, and revealing dark knowledge best left undiscovered.
The Wrath of the Orphans and the world of Elmoryn are filled with elements of dark horror, steampunk, and sorcery. It is an ancient world filled with heroes of immeasurable valor and ancient secrets tearing at the past to be known again. Written by the author of the Internet phenomenon Adrian's Undead Diary, The Wrath of the Orphans is the first book in a sprawling dark fantasy epic trilogy that is sure to thrill, charm, and disturb.

Lover of books with a good plot, strong characters, lots of action, no whiners allowed, and only a small amount of well placed cheese
The first time I tried to listen to this book, I had just finished listening to the whole AUD series (again) and this storyline is very different and I just couldn't get in to it. And it's narrated by a new guy, Kevin Collins, and it kinda threw me off.
When I started it again, I gave it the attention it deserves;, it's a involved storyline and you can miss things if you don't pay attention (oh those first 2 kids aren't Malwynn and Umaryn? OOHHH, that makes so much more sense)
Once I became familiar with the characters, I really got into the book and the quest the twins went on. And it wasn't what I thought it was going to be - the siblings out on a quest for justice. Nooooo, they want revenge and sometimes it didn't matter if the people were deserving of their wrath or not - they got it any way.
The twins loose their family (no big reveal, it's called The Wrath of the Orphan) and vow to find who ever was responsible and make them pay - whatever the cost.Well if they are willing to do anything, then it's no surprise the choices they make along the way become increasingly darker and darker. Before they know it, they are living the life they had always scoffed at, but that was before they were willing to do anything..If you've listened to Chris' other series, they are very very masculine. The main characters are men and there is a definite male vibe. This story has a very feminine feel to it. The main character is Umaryn and there are very strong female characters - good and bad - in this series. It's very cool that Chris realizes that women can be the hero too
I liked the Inquisitor they met on the train and then met again.
Wrath: If the twins deem you deserving of their wrath, they will find you and exact their worst upon you and yours.
An interesting and entertaining dark journey through the world of Elmoryn. The story follows Malwynn and Umaryn through their path of revenge against those who wronged the people they loved. You are immediately drawn into their journey filled with twists ,turns ,betrayal, murder and moral boundaries crossed all in their pursuit of revenge. With Malwynn and Umaryn's use of magic "the way", inquisitors who create zombies and a mysterious queen the story should only get better from here.
This is my first Chris Philbrook book. It will not be my last. I need to check out his other series Adrian's Undead Diary.
I have listened to many books narrated by Kevin T. Collins. His narration in this book was different from the others I have listened to. While the narration is smooth, even paced and clearly spoken, there is a lot of emphasis in each sentence even if it doesn't need to be there.

Tough question...I'm a fan of the story and the content but the narrator wasn't my favorite. The narrator who reads the "Adrian's Undead Diary" series by the same author reads in a very relaxed and natural way. This narrator made it feel forced and it almost detracts from the story. Fortunately the story itself was strong, original and entertaining which is all that really mattered.
They're twins! How can you pick one? Malwynn and Umaryn's world was turned upside down. They have lost everything and will stop at nothing to find answers and vengeance at almost any cost. Both very deep and you will find yourself emotionally attached quickly, cheering them on at every turn.
The story opens with a bang that will catch your attention immediately and quickly draws you into the story. Because of the great intrigue alone, that is probably one of my favorites. It slows a bit from there but the payoff is well worth it. I'm very anti-spoiler so I'll just leave it at that.
What would you do if everything you've ever known was ripped away?
This is a very deep, complex story that will satisfy even those who are not a huge fan of the genre like myself. Philbrook is an amazing author. This is not one to be missed!
The characters and settings were well developed.
The big showdown of course.
Umaryn, I always love the moral compasses.
There were a few heart pounding moments and a few tears for love lost.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Chris Philbrook is a promising author and I hope there is much more to come from him.
I liked it so much I listened to it 3 times back to back. It took me until a couple of chapters in on my first listen to warm up to the narrator, but I got into the cadence of his performance and he does a great job of giving different voices and accents to the characters so that you always knows who is speaking.
The story has a good pace and keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. I am very excited for the release of the second book in the series. Also a nice bonus is that at the end of the book, after the credits, you get to listen to the first chapter of the second book.
This book opened up a new universe where everything ever dreamt can come to pass. The good but most importantly the bad.
This book will pull at your emotion's, you will feel anger and loss, and more importantly fear.
This series has a little bit of everything in it. What we would call magic, zombies, and even "The Force" although none of them by name of course. This is a great revenge story.
The determination of the brother and sister is just amazing. The twist and turns it's amazing they trusted anyone at all. I am looking to read the second one. Great author and narrator, I would reccomend. Good job.
