Day two: the wise man’s fear

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Not just another day: listen to more in the Kingkiller Chronicles.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Nick Podehl arrives at the end of this long audiobook, the second in the Kingkiller series, as engaged and fresh as he was at the start.... Podehl adeptly presents the broad cast of characters - from moneylenders and courtesans to kings. One of the most fascinating portrayals by Podehl begins with a young mercenary from the Adem who says little. And when he does speak, he has a flat voice, mostly devoid of expression. Podehl builds on this when Kvothe returns with him to study among the Adem, where the mercenary develops a recognizable pattern of speech reflecting many of the culture's characteristics." “The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.”
(George R. R. Martin, New York Times-bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire)

“Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous.” (Terry Brooks, New York Times-bestselling author of Shannara)

"It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words." (Ursula K. Le Guin, award-winning author of Earthsea)

Great installment, very well written.

I would give this 5 stars but there was too much time spent on sex.

This is my favorite Audiobook

Patrick Rothfuss continues to create a world you will delight to lose yourself in. In this sequel he spends time introducing many curiosities left lingering from the first book. A turn in luck finds Kvothe leaving the university in search of the wind, amongst other things... Along the way he stumbles into several disastrous situations while proudly marching into others. Wit and guile are his greatest allies as he finds himself contending with powerful magics, navigating distant lands and mysterious societies He toes the line between success and ruin. If you liked A Name of the Wind you will not be disappointed by this book. Patrick Rothfuss is the gold standard for me. I cannot get enough of this story.

Nick Podehl is the perfect compliment to this series. Many narrators can turn me away from even my favorite books. Nick does the exact opposite. I wish he could narrate all of my favorites. He takes this story and brings it to life. He is by far the best narrator I have listened to thus far. His voice is smooth and clear. Sincere emotion and inflection transform ink on paper into beloved characters on a mental stage. He creates marvelous accents and has made me deeply appreciate some of my less favorite characters. Nick Podehl is a master of his craft and the wonderful impact of his narration should never be overlooked.

Too much sex

It’s a great story, but I wasn’t too fond of all of the sex. Nick Podehl is a great narrator and I still live the world that Rothfuss has created

I listened five times and it is better every time!

Patrick rothfuss is the brightest gem in the literary world upon which I have laid eyes and ears since I don't know... whenever! Nick Podehl is an insanely talented reader and bring so much depth to the story with the voices he uses for the people from other lands some sounding Russian people from a different country sound swedish and it's just amazing and so much fun!! do yourself a favor and if you're thinking about listening to this then do it but don't forget to start with the first book The name of the wind. so grateful my brother recommended these stories to me, and to Patrick rothfuss as well as everyone else involved in this what a fun piece of work!

love it

This is my new favorite series. The story hits all the right notes (pun intended) and look forward to hearing the next in the series. Nick Podehl does the narration justice, I can't imagine anyone better suited to read this epic.
