Day two: the wise man’s fear

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Not just another day: listen to more in the Kingkiller Chronicles.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Nick Podehl arrives at the end of this long audiobook, the second in the Kingkiller series, as engaged and fresh as he was at the start.... Podehl adeptly presents the broad cast of characters - from moneylenders and courtesans to kings. One of the most fascinating portrayals by Podehl begins with a young mercenary from the Adem who says little. And when he does speak, he has a flat voice, mostly devoid of expression. Podehl builds on this when Kvothe returns with him to study among the Adem, where the mercenary develops a recognizable pattern of speech reflecting many of the culture's characteristics." “The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.”
(George R. R. Martin, New York Times-bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire)

“Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous.” (Terry Brooks, New York Times-bestselling author of Shannara)

"It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words." (Ursula K. Le Guin, award-winning author of Earthsea)

Would my life be better

would my life be better if I never discovered the king killer chronicles? I've listened to 3 series since book 2 and all I can ever say is well it wasn't The King Killer Chronicles. Everybody's making a huge deal about the time between books, but to me it makes sense.. these books are masterpieces. I don't think this quality can be churned out quickly.

Bittersweet

I loved this story as much as the first and couldn’t wait to start the third book….until I learned there was no third book released. A vast array of emotions came with that and I learned there’s a massive club of disappointed Name of the Wind fans in the same sad boat as me. Give the people what they want Rothfuss. Though I think it will take more than just a third book to tie up every loose end in this story.

Damn author…..

Incredibly well written. Marvelous storytelling. Unfortunately the author won’t finish the damn series. I so wish he would produce the 3rd and final chapter in this amazing story.

Good read for long flights

A story within a story. This book is loooong, but that’s what I like about it. It has many smaller plot lines that mostly come back together. It is a little frustrating that we still don’t get to the end of the bigger question, but I’ll read on to get there!

Awesome

Patrick Rothfuss can spin a great tale. He and the main character share the talent of storytelling using wit, honesty about hardship, and charisma. He makes a fiction come to life.

The depth and richness of the story telling

Is absolutely wonderful. I enjoy the duration, & hope with the popularity, the author doesn't start releasing 8 hour books regularly.

I find it strange how often the author mentions the whiteness of people's teeth. That is supposed to be a sign of resin addiction, I wonder if it isn't significant when he mentions it.

Also, Denna gets a bad wrap... Qvothe is the dangerous one in this relationship. He is intrigued by puzzles, once he has an understanding of something he moves on. Donna is a puzzle to him. If he ever figured her out he would move on to a new puzzle.

I hope we get the 3rd book in my lifetime.

Simply Perfection!

I've read this book many times before and love the story. The reader, however, gave it a beautiful life only fitting Kvothe. I hope he reads future work by Rothfuss!

Overall the book was great. The main character makes his own trouble through stupidity sometimes. But overall, it was really good.
