Day two: the wise man’s fear

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Not just another day: listen to more in the Kingkiller Chronicles.

Critic reviews

"Narrator Nick Podehl arrives at the end of this long audiobook, the second in the Kingkiller series, as engaged and fresh as he was at the start.... Podehl adeptly presents the broad cast of characters - from moneylenders and courtesans to kings. One of the most fascinating portrayals by Podehl begins with a young mercenary from the Adem who says little. And when he does speak, he has a flat voice, mostly devoid of expression. Podehl builds on this when Kvothe returns with him to study among the Adem, where the mercenary develops a recognizable pattern of speech reflecting many of the culture's characteristics." “The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.”
(George R. R. Martin, New York Times-bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire)

“Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous.” (Terry Brooks, New York Times-bestselling author of Shannara)

"It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words." (Ursula K. Le Guin, award-winning author of Earthsea)

Such a good book!

I read this book for the first time several years ago and absolutely fell in love. I don't have as much time to read as I used to so I i figured I'd give listening to it a shot and I don't regret a single second! it was very well read and the content was even better this time around as I caught a lot of little bits that I kissed or had forgotten. Worth ALL 42 hours.

The continuing story of Kvoth

Vastly entertaining fantasy.
The second installment in the story of Kvoth, a red headed orphan who saw his family slaughtered by mythical entities. He swore vengeance as he made his way in this inventive world populated by fiefdoms and the inherent politics those engendered. It’s also rife with magic and fey folk.
In this volume Kvoth enters the university to study magic and alchemy. (But secretly to find out more about the mysterious group that killed his entire traveling troupe) He falls in love with a woman who is always changing her name or disappearing and loses his virginity to an ageless fairy-goddess. He studies combat with an ancient race of mercenaries where the women dominate the culture. And he becomes a masterful musician.
The volume ends with a mystery, a beating and a betrayal. I can’t wait to hear what happens next!

good followup to book 1

continuation of the first book. Story line with the academy was good but also liked the adventures away from the school.

Great Book Great Story

This series is an exceptional masterpiece. I gave an overall 4 stars because the part about Felurian just kept going on and on. it seemed the author was just writing to deliberately make the book really long. I kept skipping these parts.

Way too many chapters on Felurian.
