Publisher's summary

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place.

Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the listener a chance to learn things that only Auri knows....

In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

twitchy and charming

if you're looking for Kvoth he is not here but he will be soon. Ari seeks through the under thing to find the perfect gift. Patrick tells a dreamy story of a lost girl in her lost home finding things and putting them just so.

Read the Prolog first!

As many others have said, this is a weird story. However, I don't think it is a bad story.

First: If you have not read Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear, this story will make no sense. Don't start here.

Second: If you only want action, traditional fantasy plot lines, and exquisite dialogue, this book is not for you.

Finally: If you are still not deterred, you should read this book. It's a little weird and a bit aimless, but so are most of us. If you think Auri is an interesting character (and want to know more), are interested in the nature of the under thing, or just want to take in as much detail of Rothfass' world as you can you will like this book.

I also liked that Pat's voice. It worked for this book.

An unexpected treat

Any additional comments?

I loved this book. This is the first review I've decided to write after listening to hundreds of hours of books. I liked the first two books in the series very much and am eagerly awaiting the next. I took awhile to decide to listen to this one since it wasn't a continuation necessarily of that story line. I'm so glad I finally did. It's a wonderful little treasure of a story.

loved it

Its a beautiful piece of literature. I love how Patrick develops the character Auri. She is one of my favorite characters from the kingkiller chronicles, and I loved this chance to explore more of her life. Its not a great work for someone who is not familiar with his other works, but while I would give the other books a recommendation, this is the one that made me love this series. It should be said that as a solo piece it shouldn't be recommended.

Sweet and Poetic

Set in the world of the Kingkiller Chronicle, this novella follows a few days in the life of Auri. It’s meandering and odd, and won't be for everyone (look somewhere else if you are in the mood for thrilling fight scenes) but I thoroughly enjoyed a peek into Auri's life in the Underthing.

Awesome, but maybe not for you

This book tells a story about Auri from the king killer chronicles. It's strange. It's bizarre. It's fractured and beautiful. It's all the things that make Auri so wonderful. Borrowing words from Rothfuss, it doesn't do the things a story should do, but honestly, a story about Auri is better for it.

confused about the bad reviews

I am truly confused about the negative reviews about this book. To me it was obvious from the description, and the title for that matter, that the story was not some about our dashing hero. Mr. Rothfuss has given us a glimpse into the life of one of the more mysterious characters from his books. This story gave me what I love most about his books, character. Man, wow, such interesting characters.

Maybe not for everybody, but definitely for me!

Brilliantly different, and a glimpse inside the genius mind of Patrick Rothfuss! Anxiously awaiting book three of The King Killer Chronicles.
