Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Shadow Rising, the fourth novel in Robert Jordan’s number one New York Times best-selling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al’Thor now wields the sword Callandor. He is both the Champion of Light and the Dragon Reborn. Now, he seeks answers to another prophecy that lies with the warrior people known as the Aiel to put him on the path of learning how to wield the One Power.

Accompanied by Moiraine Damodred, Rand arrives at the Aiel Waste and is granted permission by the Wise Ones to enter the sacred city of Rhuidean. After passing through a doorframe ter'angreal, Moiraine gains foresight while the Aiel await Rand's return, either with both arms marked by dragon symbols, validating his identity as He Who Comes With the Dawn, the Chief of Chiefs of all the Aiel - or to never emerge at all.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant number one New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Getting better

Jordan is really getting into the meat of his story here. Breaking and reusing classic tropes. One of the strongest of the WoT.

Incredible!

The shadow rising is a phenomenal complement to the previous books in the wheel of Time series. There are few books that are as engaging as this one is on its own. Phenomenal writing, phenomenal story, and phenomenal narration.

Different

Having read these books a long time ago I decided to try one my first audio book. I really enjoyed it, a very different experience from reading and an excellent way to fall asleep.

Story keeps repeating....

Jordan seems to have been stuck on the same storyline. He repeats himself over and over again with similar plots from his previous books. Just to reveal one major thing in the plot, he creates the same scenarios since his first book. It was great in the first three but now it felt like he has nothing else better. Main characters squabbling like little kids. Gender fights and page long description of dresses and hair. Characters meet and then go on different paths in different combinations (just to create new stories). Rand finds newer ways to be dragon reborn. They defeat the black Ajas or dark lords and it starts all over again.

All said, I would still continue reading the series aftere a small hiatus just to make it exciting when I picks it up again. But for now, done with the repetition. Narrators are awesome and consistent.
