Publisher's summary

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Shadow Rising, the fourth novel in Robert Jordan’s number one New York Times best-selling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, Rand al’Thor now wields the sword Callandor. He is both the Champion of Light and the Dragon Reborn. Now, he seeks answers to another prophecy that lies with the warrior people known as the Aiel to put him on the path of learning how to wield the One Power.

Accompanied by Moiraine Damodred, Rand arrives at the Aiel Waste and is granted permission by the Wise Ones to enter the sacred city of Rhuidean. After passing through a doorframe ter'angreal, Moiraine gains foresight while the Aiel await Rand's return, either with both arms marked by dragon symbols, validating his identity as He Who Comes With the Dawn, the Chief of Chiefs of all the Aiel - or to never emerge at all.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant number one New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

Critic reviews

"Jordan's multivolume epic continues to live up to its high ambitions. Complex plotting, an array of strong characters, lavish detail, and a panoramic scope make this series a feast for fantasy aficionados." (Library Journal)

"The fourth volume of the most ambitious American fantasy saga continues to suggest that The Wheel of Time will also be the finest." (Booklist)

The shadow rising

This part in the wheel of time sets them on a wonderful journey that I like because they are lost but wandering straight in their journey. I love this series in paper when I first read it, now audible

i'm pleased

I can appreciate the prevailing sentiment of some reviewers that Mr. Jordan repeats many descriptions but for me it's been good as I listen to Audible five or six hours daily. The filler is bearable. Less so is the female character Nynaeve. She takes some of the fun out of all the segments she is in.

Finally getting around to action

Any additional comments?

In this book they finally get around to action on an epic scale; or at least approaching it. Good listen.

loved it

Could not turn it off! The writing kept you on your toes, the switch in narrators kept the POV clear, and the story was amazing.

Less Story Told By Rand (some spoilers)

The biggest thing that stands out in regards to The Shadow riding is how much less of the story is told from the perspective of Rand rather than other characters. This however, gives readers or listeners a chance to learn more about other characters, especially Mat who is separated from Rand until the end of the book. Mat is healed by the Aes Sedai and separated from the Dagger, and now we get to learn more about him without the personality changes the Dagger caused.

Spilers- The ending was not very interesting though. Although the theme of the whole series is time as a wheel that repeats over and over, it's starting to get a bit boring by book 3 to have essentially the same ending again as with book 1 and book 2. Rand fights the Dark One, and despite two other times thinking he has killed him and being wrong, one again is certain that he has killed him and he is gone.

As with the other books in the series on audible, the chapters of the audible book do not match up in any way with the book chapters and this still is frustrating.

Black Sisters

The evil women of the white tower are causing trouble, the novices are trying to capture them, Perin goes home to fight the White Coats, and other evil creatures. Matt is going to find his true love, but not where anyone expects her to be.
In case you can't tell yet, I am a fan.

Loved every minuscule detail

I know a lot of readers complain about how R.B. Painstakingly goes over every detail but I sincerely enjoyed how meticulous he was. More times than not I'll I finish a good book and wish it was longer, so this lessens the blow. If your a fan of high fantasy novels then don't think twice!

Fantastic readers

This is one of the most extensive and beautiful series I've read and the readers for the audiobooks bring it even further to life. I read through it myself first and now on my second read through the series in listening to the audiobooks instead.
