He has fought the fight, and run the race. But the enemies never stop coming, and the race has no finish line. It has been three months since Captain Lee Harden found the survivors at Camp Ryder. With winter looming, Lee is on the verge of establishing Camp Ryder as a hub of safety and stability in the region. But not everyone agrees with Lee’s mission... or his methods. Growing tensions between camp leadership are coming to a head, and as Lee struggles amid the dissention and controversy, new revelations about the infected threaten to destroy everything he has worked for. The Remaining: Refugees is the third book in the best-selling The Remaining series.

I have been listening to books on tape for over 20 years. Starting with audio tapes, then CD's and now downloads.
I do love the Christian Rummel's reading of this book. he does a very good job. But it is definitely D.J. Molles material that makes this series pop. I listened to the first book and before done downloaded the second, third and fourth. I have not listened to another book since I have started this series.
When the antagonist turns against the main group and gets enough others to do it too. It was so very anxiety producing.
I still love the hero Lee Harding. He is such a believable hero with self doubts and personal foibles. What Molles does it make him a soldier first. As he says, “I am not a super hero. But a soldier and I am good at what I do."
I did like when he finds another dog, but this is not an emotional book. The anxiety of working with the different groups led by inferior people is probably the most emotions of the book. the zombies are the least of the problems, it is the other survivors
I would start at the very first book and go through them one by one. They are all great but it is fun to build upon the foundations of the others.

The Remaining: Refugees continues the story of Captain Harden and his group form Camp Ryder. This volume of the series deepens the mystery of what’s going on as well as adding in a number of fronts the remaining have to fight on and really expands the plot. Moving from one flight to the next keeps the reader engaged and with none of the main characters being safe you never know who may buy it next. My only complaint is the leaving of a large cliff-hanger making the reader to commit to the next book in the story “Fractured” if he/she wants any conclusion in this story.
The narration really brings all the characters to life!
Love my family....along with guitars, cameras, and a good book!
Not as good as the previous installments, but still great! I felt like the story got away a little bit in this book. Some of the events really stretched my suspension of reality because they were just a little hard to believe. There were a few holes in the logical procession of the storyline, and a few leaps in the flow. However, I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to the 4th!
The quality of the writing improves from book to book, and the depth of character description and motivations are real story drivers.
I am a real post-societal thriller fan, and this series has me hooked. The writing has improved from Book 1 in leaps and bounds and the story-line gets richer. Sometimes I have to take a break as the tension gets a bit too high and I dread to hear what happens next !
Believeable characterisation and good acting .
New listeners - persevere, you need to listen to the first two books to do the series justice.
also as an aside, the value in terms of listening hours and "entertainment bang for buck" increases ( look at the run times for each book ) as the series progresses.
28 DAYS + WALKING DEAD + ZOMBIE FALLOUT + DAY BY DAY ARMAGEDDON = THE REMAINING!
AFTER SPENDING THE YEAR WADING THROUGH HORRIBLE ZOMBIE/APOCALYPTIC BOOKS I FINALLY FEEL THE WASTED CREDITS REDEEMED BY D.J. MOLLES THE REAMING SERIES. THOUGHT I WAS NOT GOING TO LIKE THIS SERIES AS MOST BOOKS INVOLVE EX MILITARY TRYING TO SURVIVE DURING A ZOMBIE OUTBREAK BUT WOW WAS I GLAD I TOOK A CHANCE. I HAVE FINISHED ALL FOUR BOOKS IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN.
LEE (MAIN CHARACTER) IS MY HERO. I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK TO BE MADE INTO A MOVIE OR TELEVISION SERIES.
ZOMBIES IN THE STORY ARE HORRIFYING. SCENARIOS INVOLVING HUMANS ARE HORRIFYING. THIS IS A HORROR BOOK!
NARRATOR WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!
Avid Zombie fan who's starting to listen to more and more Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories. So, my description is apt to change. Dog lover who's known to have cats. LOL C# coder, part-time prepper, B movie fan, AMC watcher, recovering but successful day trader, perpetual student, overjoyed uncle, former adrenaline junkie with a flare for cooking, and lots more. LOL
sorry, i've got 6 words. as lee says, "you can't choose who you save!"
easily, the end. it's SHOCKING! i had to pick my brain up off the floor! puh-lease nobody reveal what happens! i was kind of pissed at the reviewer who revealed lee had to put down tango! if you reveal what happens, you'll forever be on my s#!t list!
refuges picks up 3 months after book 2. lee has been able to establish the camp ryder hub- a small collection of semi-safe zones. camp ryder is becoming too crowded with refuges, and tempers are flaring b/c lee's supplies only go so far. there is a dichotomy between the best way to survive- hunker down in isolation or expand and welcome all survivors. honestly, it would be a hard choice, and dj molles does a good job building the tension b/ween the factions. it's kind of a slow boil, but when things finally come to a head, it's an explosive climax!
i'm not spoiling anything by saying jerry isn't your typical villain, but i liked the direction dj molles went with it. it's been building, and jerry's slick ways of doing things add to the complications lee faces.with the influx of new refuges,
there are new friends and new enemies. dj molles does a good job of differentiating all of the characters so you don't get lost in who's who. the characters have different motivations, and there's a lot of character development.
dj molles keeps the tension building with internal and external threats. the infected are changing and in an interesting way that i didn't expect, which is refreshing!
at the end of book 2, we're introduced to jacob, who's forced to kill the coordinator from virginia. i like how dj molles weaves him into the plot, and what he brings to the table. there are a few surprises in this series, and i like how dj molles uses them. they don't feel fake or contrived. rather, the surprises add to the plot and make the story even more interesting. and yes, there are a couple of nice surprises in this book!
i thought this book was a little slower than the first two, but i liked it just the same as the intrigue builds to the explosive climax that'll have you downloading book 4 no matter what time it is!
I will listen to NO boring book. Old Fav's,Card, King , Hobb. New Fav's, Hill, Scalzi, Sawyer, Interested in Lansdale, Crouch, Konrath
THAT WAS JUST A PILL HE WOULD HAVE TO SWALLOW
Better then book 2, but no where near as book 1. If I didn't like book 2, you are wondering why I bought book 3. I loved book 1 and before I had a chance to listen to book 2, book 3 went on sale. The reviews were good so I bought it, a mistake I shall never make again. There were some tense times, finally toward the middle of the book and there was a new development, but all in all the book is boring and not much different then all the other Zombie books.
TOMLIN DIDN'T SEEM TO WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION DIRECTLY.
I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING.
This book is big on the cheap ploys, made to stretch a story out to book length. Our main character is told he needs to come to camp so and so right away, a stranger is asking for him. No, we don't know his name, no we don't know what he wants to talk to you about, but he knows your name. After a long drawn out process to find out who the guy is and why he wants our hero (a long drawn out melodramatic process.)Our hero asks did you kill so and so, the answer is finally yes, we the reader know why, but our hero who seems to be all brawn and no brain, is clueless. In this book all liberals are far left, all conservatives our super patriotic and far right, all bad guys are super evil, and all good guys are super sweet. No body is in the middle and there are no gray areas. If you loved book 2, you will love this. If you did not like book 2, you will not like this. That was helpful, right.
This narrator reads every line like it is the title to a movie. This makes the sentences drawn out and slow. I put him on 2x and once I got use to the mickey mouse voice the tempo was much to my satisfaction.
Tell us about yourself!
Confess, I am hooked on the series and love the characters and storyline.
D. J. Molles is so gifted! I read each book back to back and I wait with bated breath for the next book in 2014!
"Long long story!"
I have never read the print version.
Fed up of books that entice you into buying yet another book so you can find out what happened!
"If you like the genre you won't be disappointed"
Very clever story, great plot, plausible characters. Recommend the series and I look forward to the final instalment in 2015.
