Publisher's summary

Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild.

Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder.

It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.

The Red Knight has all three, he has youth on his side, and he's determined to turn a profit. So when he hires his company out to protect an Abbess and her nunnery, it's just another job. The abbey is rich, the nuns are pretty, and the monster preying on them is nothing he can't deal with.

Only it's not just a job. It's going to be a war....

The Red Knight is the first book of The Traitor Son Cycle.

A refreshing mix of classic and new.

Great narrator.
Great story.
It's very refreshing mix of feeling like a classic story but with those lovely touches of crude humanity that are missing from many of the classics. It's also great to have a fantasy story where armour is a real working thing that exists for more than just looks... looking at you there sword of truth...

Entertaining and Engaging -Great Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of The Red Knight to be better than the print version?

Mathew Wolf's performance was top notch - perfect voice for this book

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Even at 30 hours long I was sad to see the book end – Most first novels have story glitches and I suppose this one does too, but I have no complaints. This book is defiantly “credit worthy’ I can’t wait for the next book

Excellent, some of Fantasy's Best

This book is excellent, well-written, and a true pleasure to read. It will leave you wanting more. The second book, The Fell Sword, is even better. I am counting down the days until the third book is released in October 2015.

Very well done. Lots of built in back story.

What made the experience of listening to The Red Knight the most enjoyable?

I liked that the characters had a lot of back story, some of which gets explained and some doesn't.
I liked the magic combat systems too.

What other book might you compare The Red Knight to and why?

Have to think about that one.

What about Matthew Wolf’s performance did you like?

Well narrated with different voices and verbal punctuation.
Never left wondering which character is speaking.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, if it weren't so long.
Made good car-listening though.

Any additional comments?

I'd definitely recommend both the author and the narrator.

What a narrator!

The twists and turns and layer upon layer of characters almost drove me away from this tale were it not for Matthew Wolf’s acting prowess.
When I found myself lost, I could stop and just listen to the voice he gave the character in question and then find my way back to the story line.

If Mr Wolf narrates the next book, I’m in.

If you get stupid and switch to a lesser actor, you will lose me... without question.

Not a single moment of boredom.

The story flowed well. The characters are well developed and engaging. Plus who doesn't love a big book that keeps you entertained for more than a few hours.

Wow, really good book

The book follows a group of characters from the Queen to a slave and tells some of their backstory's as it goes along, while telling the main story of the book. It is well written and I couldn't stop listening to it. I was involved within the first few minutes and stay throughout the book.

Slow start, good finish.

Not bad, I struggled with the first 2/3rds or so. Slower paced in the beginning than other works of it's kind. Picked up the pace nicely and finished well however. Reader is also a bit one dimensional, can't pull off separate characters as well as others.

Good story but ....

I liked the story, I do, but I felt let down by the narrator. Sometimes he was quite good but at often he has an annoying cadence ams or he was very flat.
