Bogged down with weapons discriptions

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The story is okay, nothing really special though. It would have been fine except for the obsession with weapons. Cutting way back on weapons descriptions would help a lot. Not interesting enough to keep on with the series.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't care

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe

Disappointing

The whole book is a set up for next book and juuuuust stopped. Not sure I'll get next in series. This was a lot of hours to invest only to go no where with not a touch of closure.

Not for New Englanders

This meltdown is based in Maine. The most annoying parts of this book are the horrible Down East accents and the complete hash made of many city and town names. Please don't use the accent with bad pronunciations . Everyone knows it's Ha-vrill not Hav-ear-hill. And it's Mid-fid. Not Med ford.

This type of thing a frequent failure in audio books. This is just my most recent irritation.

A great action read about an EMP or maybe CME...

This was my first Steven Konkoly book and I read have enjoyed the first two in this series. Getting ready to start book three. A great good guy vrs evil villain (Elli) Maybe not S realistic as A. American's "Going Home" series but a really good action packed read. You can't help but like the common sense, determined Alex Fletcher and family. Language is a little rough but mine probably would be too living through what they are dealing with.

As an EMP book, it's less depressing than "One Second After", which is a good read but a lot less heroics.

Enjoy it.

Don't bother

Silly! I enjoyed the Jakarta pandemic, but this was very dissapointing. The persons are flat stereotypes, with the protaagonist most of all. Action packed sequences becomes interrupted by a discussion on cursing. And the rapid detereoration of mankind seems unbelievable. At the end... well, it doesn't end.

A REGULAR SH@T SHOW

Before buying I read the reviews on page one. Everyone was upset about the book having a cliff hanger, so I thought I will be prepared for that. I never made it to the end, had no desire to. Digging deeper into the reviews, where the Jakarta fans regulated the honest reviews by going unhelpful, I have discovered what a prepper is. There is no story here. Some have complained about taking a whole book to get to Boston. It is easy to see early on why. The father in the story is the expert on everything. He tells everyone what, how and when to do things. For example he tells his son, take the knife out of the outer left pocket and ... I believe we were also told where he bought the knife, it's shape and size, and what it is used for.

In the beginning they are in a sailboat and we are told everything about this boat. I thought, alright the author is showing off his knowledge on sailboats, when they get to land, surely it will improve. If anything it got worse. Every step is explained, literally every foot step.

I am not a fan of the narrator, but I am not sure he really had anything to work with.

Ending more for $ than plot

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Instead of making a long really good book to start the series, they decided to chop it short to get an extra book out of the series. Awkward and rather pointless ending rather building suspense for book 2, you are no closer to an ending at hour 11 than you are at hour two.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Perseid Collapse?

The first two hours were great and if you enjoyed the author's first book than you won't be dissapointed with his newest, minus the whole ending nonsense.a

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

We'll have to wait till the next minibook comes out to know for sure!

Bad

Any additional comments?

I listened to both this book and book #2 in this series. This series has too much military jargon and not enough plot development. I really tried to like this book, but it's not very good.
