Publisher's summary

Orson Scott Card’s The Lost Gate is the first book in the Mithermages series from the New York Times bestselling author of Ender’s Game.

Danny North knew from early childhood that his family was different—and that he was different from them. While his cousins were learning how to create the things that commoners called fairies, ghosts, golems, trolls, werewolves, and other such miracles that were the heritage of the North family, Danny worried that he would never show a talent, never form an outself.

He grew up in the rambling old house, filled with dozens of cousins and aunts and uncles, all ruled by his father. Their home was isolated in the mountains of western Virginia, far from town, far from schools, far from other people.

There are many secrets in the House, and many rules that Danny must follow. There is a secret library with only a few dozen books, and none of them in English—but Danny and his cousins are expected to become fluent in the language of the books. While Danny’s cousins are free to create magic whenever they like, they must never do it where outsiders might see.

Unfortunately, there are some secrets kept from Danny as well. And that will lead to disaster for the North family.

Absolutely fantastic.

The world is intricate and facenatiing. The story moves at a high phase and it is quite humorous at times. Absolutely loved it

An instant classic, fantastically narrated.

Up there with The Hobbit for fantasy and rivals Cards other stories for his best works.

Buying the second book

Creative, Fresh, and enjoyable. It was really nice to be lost from reality for a few hours. Finished the first this morning, and purchasing the second this afternoon.

Can’t Go Wrong

This is the second Orson Scott Card book that I’ve listened to, the first being Ender’s Game. I love the character development and the stories themselves. It’s so very easy to get drawn in and my how the time flies by. This story was great and I can’t wait to read more. So like the title says, you can’t go wrong with this book or any Orson Scott Card book. Enjoy :)

P.S... I love listening to Stefan Rudnicki read. He’s a badass :)

Amazing book.

Someone reccomended I listen to this and I'm very glad I did!
Each chapter had me yearning for another and another and I was able to relish the 12.5 hours over the course of a week.
Very excited to continue the series with the next two books👍

Still undecided

This is Book #1 of the Mither Mages series, which currently has three titles. The magic system didn't really do it for me, at first. After a while, I grew attached to the characters and began to appreciate where Card was going a little more. I listened to the audible version and enjoyed the readers. I'm still not a huge fan, but interested enough to listen to book #2 'The Gate Thief'. I borrowed it from Overdrive through my public library, though, to save a credit. We'll see if book three is worth the listen.
