Newly commissioned lieutenant Alexis Carew is appointed into HMS Shrewsbury, a 74-gun ship of the line in New London's space navy. She expects Shrewsbury will be sent into action in the war against Hanover, but instead she finds that she and her new ship are pivotal in a Foreign Office plot to bring the star systems of the French Republic into the war and end the threat of Hanover forever.

I am an avid eclectic reader.
This is book three in the Alexis Carew series. Alexis, now a lieutenant, is assigned to the HMS Shrewsbury, a 74 gun ship in the New London’s Space Navy. The author has attempted to make this an “age of sail” type of story except instead of on the sea in the 1800’s it is in space, sailing the solar winds. The story has the British and Germans at war with the French undecided.
The story is well written, the characters are interesting and the plot twist and turns. Overall it is a fun adventure story that makes a great get away story. This is a different type of space opera. Elizabeth Klett has done a good job narrating the story; enjoyed her British accent.
I loved the growth and development of Alexus ! Please write more about her. I listen to these while doing embroidery and hiking. Thank you! Also this is the best narrator ever!!!!
I am beginning to truly appreciate the story and the life Alexis Carew, if you like a good Naval story wrapped around a strong Female character this series is for you. while I will not do "spoilers" I am now waiting for the next part of her life in the navy and several of the side story plots to come to fruition.
I absolutely loved this story and i cannot wait for another Akexis Carew Story from J. A. Sutherland and wonderfully read by Ms. Klett as usual, She is one of my favorite readers.
buy it ! its awesome!
i am tired abd it is late because i couldnt put this book down, so please excuse my typos and bad writing of this review.
Wonderful and 5 stars across the board!
Just like the first two books, Alexis Carew continues to excel as a fine young navel officer. Her performance in combat is outstanding. This book sees her as part of a covert military operation. The story is well told. The narration is perfect. Now I find myself waiting for book four!
"A very and surprising series"
Whilst I had to forgive the sailing ships in space device - this did not stop me enjoying a very good set of stories with decent character and plot development. A page turner at times - well done J A Sutherland.
Started off a bit slow but soon picked up the pace, will get the next one!
This 3rd instalment was as great as the last two and I could hardly put it down.
