Publisher's summary

Savannah is considered a Southern treasure, a city of beauty with a rich, colorful past. Some might even call it magical....

To the uninitiated, Savannah shows only her bright face and genteel manner. Those who know her well, though, can see beyond her colonial trappings and small-city charm to a world where witchcraft is respected, Hoodoo is feared, and spirits linger. Mercy Taylor is all too familiar with the supernatural side of Savannah, being a member of the most powerful family of witches in the South.

Despite being powerless herself, of course.

Having grown up without magic of her own, in the shadow of her talented and charismatic twin sister, Mercy has always thought herself content. But when a series of mishaps - culminating in the death of the Taylor matriarch - leaves a vacuum in the mystical underpinnings of Savannah, she finds herself thrust into a mystery that could shake her family apart...and unleash a darkness the line of Taylor witches has been keeping at bay for generations.

In The Line, the first book of the Witching Savannah series, J. D. Horn weaves magic, romance, and betrayal into a captivating Southern Gothic fantasy with a contemporary flair.

Good Southern American Girl Witch Story

I Like the Story and give it close to 4 stars with narration a good 5 stars. This is Horn's first book in the series that is original and not the same old New Orleans witch story.
It's a young Georgia Peach Witch that is smart, fun and very cute.
As the Story's Heroin young Lady grows into a woman and thinks she is passed over as the family's main witch in deference to her twin.
you will love the twists and All of the cool characters!

Surprisingly good

Any additional comments?

I purchased this series hoping for an interesting urban fantasy book, and got it! I am surprised this book doesn't have more reviews and that I had never heard of the author before, because it was really good. I'm also surprised that the price was less than a regular credit - it is certainly worth at least that much and more.

J. D. Horn skillfully brings great characterization, a fast paced plot with interesting twists and a convincing mystery together into a believable novel about the lone "disappointment" witch in a famous witching family. Shannon McManus's beautiful Southern accent and skillful voice acting added to the story's depth, making it one of those rare audiobooks that is enriched by the performance.

So pay this author more, buy the books and enjoy the story because it is definitely worth your time.

Has potential but fizzles in the end

Was The Line worth the listening time?

no

Any additional comments?

I am still not sure how I feel about this book. It had potential and did hold my attention until the end, but It broke down in the end so I have no desire to read the next one.
It is NOT a YA book. There are to many adult things going on and the main character is 20, though does not always act it.
At the end of the book, I wanted to throw it at the wall and say, You are kidding right. (if it wasn't my kindle, I would have) It was just to much for me, too many stupid decisions and I did not like where it ended up.

Loved this story

What did you love best about The Line?

The ability for Mercy to love and forgive and befriend someone the family considered beneath them.

What does Shannon McManus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really enjoy this narrator her voice seems perfect for a Savannah Georgia area. I found her to be smooth and comforting. I loved Je-los accent.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the rest of this series which I borrowed through kindle unlimited. I have a feeling I'm gonna feel the same way about the rest of this series.

Perfect for this Savannhian

Being from Savannah, Georgia, I enjoyed this story immensely! THE LINE wove together the beauty, mystery, and hoodoo of our area perfectly. J.D Horn painted a pretty picture of downtown Savannah through the eyes of Mercy Taylor. Even outsiders should not have a problem "seeing" Savannah.

I was worried going into this that the narrator would have some phony southern drawl that would make my skin crawl. I am happy to report that Shannon McManus exceeded my expectations. She delivered a flawless performance and made me feel like I was walking down town.

I can't wait to check out the other books in this series and see what other secrets come to light.
