Publisher's summary

Retired from his fighting days, John Perry is now village ombudsman for a human colony on distant Huckleberry. With his wife, former Special Forces warrior Jane Sagan, he farms several acres, adjudicates local disputes, and enjoys watching his adopted daughter grow up.

That is, until his and Jane's past reaches out to bring them back into the game — as leaders of a new human colony, to be peopled by settlers from all the major human worlds, for a deep political purpose that will put Perry and Sagan back in the thick of interstellar politics, betrayal, and war.

The highly anticipated conclusion to John Scalzi's SF trilogy begun with Old Man's War and The Ghost Brigades concludes with The Last Colony

Best of the series

The Last Colony is Scalzi doing what he does best: the human side of sci-fi. Last Colony has plenty of space ships and sci-fi stuff, but at its heart, it's a political story which could easily have been set in our world with few substantial changes.

Another solid book

I enjoyed this book as much as the first two. Everything is pretty consistent from the writing to the performance. If you like the first two then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in this.

My only complaint is in the performance. We know who is speaking! You don’t need to say, “he said”, “Jane said”, “whoever said,” etc. after each line. Especially when it’s only two people talking and they have obviously different voices. It’s annoying, distracting, and adds unnecessary length to the story.

Better than the first 2 books

Loved Book 1, Liked Book 2. This one has them both beat... Can't wait to see what happens next.

A really good continuation

While not as fast paced as the first two books, I did enjoy the story. The narration is spot on for this series. Going through this series through audible after reading them many years ago.

Decent military science fiction.

Following on to his two previous books, this is great addition, and really dynamic me explores the characters. Well done.

Good Wrap up

Really enjoyed the first two books. This one was good too. It’s a good way to end it and it was a lot more of a thinking book and the first two.

Good for a third book

I wish there was less he said and she said, but the story was entertaining.
