Publisher's summary

In the second decade of the 21st century, the world is struck by two catastrophes: a new mini-ice age and a plague to dwarf all previous experiences. Rising out of the disaster is the character known to history as "Bandit Six", an American Army officer caught up in the struggle to rebuild the world and prevent the fall of his homeland - despite the best efforts of politicians, both elected and military.

The Last Centurion is a memoir of one possible future, a world that is a darkling mirror of our own. Written "blog-style", it pulls no punches in its descriptions of junk science, bad strategy, and organic farming.

Critic reviews

"Dan John Miller’s delivery is perfect for this no-punches-pulled first-person narrative by Bandit Six, the Last Centurion. Laced with crude language and dark images of the future, Miller’s reading is straightforward and army tough." (AudioFile Magazine)

"Ringo excels in the depiction of combat, managing to capture the carnage and horror while maintaining a sense of the absurd....with the unexpected twists that Ringo has made his hallmark." (Publishers Weekly)

A must read for any conservative!

Would you listen to The Last Centurion again? Why?

I am listening to it again, this is my second time!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Centurion?

The whole book is very memorable, and the fact that he writes in the first person for this book, makes his description of military chain of command, and it's relationship to civilian political oversight particularly... Well lets just say, to a lessor extent, "been there, done that!"

Have you listened to any of Dan John Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think that I have listened to Dan John Miller before, but his narration was very good. He meets my criteria for a good listen, by his pleasant voice, his ability to make the story his own by his vocal inflections, and the intensity of his narration. You believe that the story is his to tell

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh yes, cry, no, but the book elicits a wide range of emotions

Any additional comments?

I am waiting for the next book, a narration of Bandit Six's wife's story.

Excellent as always!

A good hard look at an all too plausible situation and how the "Progressive" mindset/worldview is likely to fail us.

Usual for this author, but not bad.

Okay so you've read the other reviews that say its a terrible book full of xenophobia, hate, and just an ignorant rant. Its not. This book certainly has a right wing slant yes. However, many thing said are quite accurate about the topics in question. It is a well researched piece of work. Also there is no xenophobia and America is not presented as perfect. He never once preaches hate, and if anything encourages tolerance. If you don't like the book do not count this author out. This is an usual work for him and an excellent addition to any fan's collection.

Outstanding!!!!!!

If you were ever in the military you will like this, if you like military fiction you will like this, but if you like to think that FICTION NOVELS should be judged based on a politically correct point of view READ NON-FICTION!!!!

I counldn't stop listening

John Ringo was in the military something like 30 years ago, but he describes modern weapon systems and light armored vehicle maneuvers, etc. to such a high degree of expertise that you would think that he got out of the military two years ago. I really appreciate that degree of accuracy. As far as the being in the Army itself goes, whether it be 30 years ago or 20 years from now, some things stay the same no matter what, and there really are officers like Bandit 6, and there are good and bad BC's, and there are grunts, tech soldiers, and Fobits, and Remps and on down the line. Me I was a grunt at first and then I turned into a fobit. He described what happens to fobits stuck on FOB's perfectly, but what makes a soldier one thing or another is only dependent on what MOS he chooses when he is at the MEPS. With the right training most grunts could be just as good of mechanics as most mechanics and vice versa. So all the distinctions of suck are sort of arbitrary. Anyways its a good book, right wing or not.

Ringo at his Finest

Gotta say, love this book. Lemme put it to you straight though.

This is a book for the patriotic, the open minded and the conservative. If you fall outside of these categories then you will be disapointed and probably insulted.

Good.

If you want to listen to a book that is filled with great action, great commentary and one of the most memorable characters i have ever read, then this is the novel for you.

If you want to listen to a book that will challenge your assumptions and push your beliefs to the breaking point, not with rhetoric, but with facts and reason, then this is the book for you.

If that sounds scary, then stay away. Please, just go find something else. You won't enjoy it, i promise you, and you'll just get all upset and huffy of these intolerant people spouting hate (or, the right people spouting the truth, one could argue).

For those of you who think that sounds good, by all means, download and enjoy one of the greatest audiobooks that i've had the pleasure of listening to. You won't be disapointed at all.

interesting format

I'm a big fan of Ringo and thought this looked interesting. I was a little confused at first but then caught on that really enjoyed this format. This book is written more like a blog recounting past events, or maybe in not for to go to a biographer. The story is top notch and very scary in just how realistic and possible it is. I recommend this book to all of my Ringo virgin friends.

Honored Classic Literature which should be Spread

John is a favorite of mine for years due to his quirky mindset and ability to deconstruct a situation and expose it's warts and propaganda. He correctly IMHO evaluates the mindless and societally murderous and destructive propaganda of the Progressive left's ideology going back centuries. Please note the (leftist labelled right wing radicals of history, Hitler, and Mussolini, as well as classic Stalin and Mao) were ALL leftist. NAZI is German for National SOCIALIST Party and the Fascism of Mussolini was Socialist as well with central control and planning. This book is a profound and serious treatise on the evils of socialism and RADICAL Islam while not treading on the toes of other alternative governments or moderate Muslims. It should be required reading (or listening) in Public Schools, Colleges and Universities world wide or at least in supposed Federal Republics such as what we were purported to be. This book will be in my extensive library at the top of the reading and re-reading list from now on. Thanks John and Thanks Dan John Miller for the outstanding reading of the novel.
