Good, but the first two are better

If you could sum up The Hot Gate in three words, what would they be?

Unfinished, wandering disjointed

What about Mark Boyett’s performance did you like?

He differentiates the charters well and has a smooth delivery.

Any additional comments?

I felt the ending was untrue to the tenor and direction of the other novels. This one does not advance human but seems to be filler or a rant on national differences. Still worth a listen.

pretty good

John Ringo's series seem to all have weak endings but this one fits, he's still my favorite author

Too many loose ends, doesn't feel complete

The end just seemed truncated, no wrap up. We are left to create our own version of the end. Mystery whether he's going to write the Rangora out as a threat or is he planning a sequel. The series is five star and there's a lot of learning to be extracted from it, the author is extraordinarily well-informed. I could just wish for another 30 minutes of tying up loose ends. Even though life is rarely that cut and dried.

Best sci-fi in a long time

Awesome book, the detail in the world is consuming. The characters feel real to me. Seriously where is part 4?!

Wonderful Story

After listening to all three of these books and over two years later I am still wishing and hoping the John Ringo would write another book this series! A really great one to listen to!

Great listen

Story line is good and you get to learn about the characters not just a veneer personality.

Pretty good ending to the series.

First I like the narrator, the voices are distinct enough to know who is talking without a “Joe said”.

As for the story, this is my least favorite of the three books. It spent far to much time on Dana arguing and fighting with the people in the 143. Vernon took a backseat in this book compared to the first two and it’s unfortunate because he is such a great character. Over still brought the trilogy home, but it’s was more drawn out than needed.

Fun stuff

Ringo always delivers on the "I can't stop reading" side of things.. and this is no exception. I actually really like how they focused on Parker this book though you'll bump into most the crew throughout as well as a few new people. A good change of pace and a book that won't disappoint.

Great Hard SciFi

This series ranks right up there with Jack Campbell's "Lost Fleet" Series. Good character development, good plot and high adventure. John RIngo is a great story teller. Starting off with what appears at first to be a silly premise - Maple Syrup - it just rockets up from there with several alien species, mass destruction on Earth and the still formidable problem of trying to work together back on Earth. With the US rising from the ashes of almost total destruction of it's infrastructure to still be the dominant player on the world stage we witness the development of endearing and believable characters who are able to meet the challenge of saving the Earth from an implacable foe. And then there's Tyler Vernon, a billionaire like no other who turns his billions (maybe trillions) to the task of building an almost indestructible Death Star and a space mining and manufacturing infrastructure that is exactly the right thing at exactly the right time.

Much of this third book deals with trying to integrate diverse cultures including former enemies (the Taliban) and a South American class based, misogonistic and manana attitude into a working military alliance in space where no mistakes are allowed if you want to live. It's interesting how Ringo handles this and weaves it into the storyline. Definitely not PC.

Mark Boyett does just such an outstanding job as reader that you can't imagine any one else doing this story. His female voices are excellent and his ability to speak the almost un-pronounceable alien names is also great.

If you're looking for a great series to make your commute something to look forward to then look no further. Well worth the credits. I very much look forward to the next book in this series and knowing how prolific a writer Mr Ringo is, I doubt we'll have to wait long.
