Publisher's summary

The Grail is another knockout from New York Times best-selling author Bob Mayer writing as Robert Doherty.

The Holy Grail - is it the key to a miracle...or a terrifying truth? The Great Wall of China, the immense carvings on Easter Island, Egypt's pyramids, UFOs: What is the chilling connection? The answer, unearthed by an elite band of soldiers and scientists based at Area 51, is rewriting human history - to include the aliens who shaped it!

Now, in this heart-pounding novel, Area 51 personnel embark on a top-secret search for the Holy Grail, a glittering artifact with the power to save the world...or lead to its destruction.

Special Forces officer Mike Turcotte has paid his dues in battle and in blood. Now assigned to Area 51, he fights the toughest enemy of his career: the alien race who arrived on Earth millennia ago and have returned to claim the planet.

Mike has dodged bullets and faced weapons of mass destruction to give humanity another day of reprieve. But when his lover, scientist Lisa Duncan, falls into evil hands, Mike must decide which prize means the most to him - the woman he loves or the legendary Grail. It's a decision that could damn him...or damn us all.

Poor reader

The storyline was great, but the reader was lackluster.
I would never read another book by this boring reader.

Terrible Narration and production

This is by far the worst narration I have heard on Audible. The performance was awful - no emotion, weird vocal pacing, no voices for characters. The production value is also bad. Lots of starting a word and then repeating it, or repeating lines. it is as if the production team missed cutting out bad takes. there is also a bunch of over modulated lines that sound like static. I thought my speakers had broken when it first happened. I would not recommend this ever. The story is ok at least.

Needs to be reperformed.

I love this series. And while the constant switching of narrators is annoying, it would be okay if they at least switched to decent narrators. But of the hundreds of audiobooks I’ve listened to, this is BY FAR the worst narrator I’ve ever heard. The only one I’ve ever thought I could do a better job than.

Horrible narration 😫😠😵‍💫

The Area 51 series is wonderful interesting fast paced I love the series.

The previous books had really good narration. Why would they switch to this guy. He did a couple of the Atlantis books too. It’s cringe worthy. It’s completely monotone and very difficult to tell what character is speaking as there is almost no change in voices for different characters. The Russian sounds exactly like the American and you have to figure out who is speaking. The only difference in voices is that it’s a bit softer with the 2 female characters.

There’s no editing or production at all. Periodically he’ll make a mistake and go back and restart the sentence. That would be edited out if there was any production at all. This is just some guy reading a book out loud in a monotone voice. The way he droned on I kept missing key facts and had to go back many many times.

I’m really hopping they went back to the other narrator for the rest of the books.

The terrible narration took much of the enjoyment of listening away. However I stayed with it because I’m completely hooked on the story and I own the whole series.

The story is awesome the concept is unique and intriguing. I couldn’t turn it off. I love this series.

That said you might want to read this one book and, providing they don’t use this narrator again, listen to all the others.

Worst narration in history.

The audio books series up until now has been great. I almost didn't finish this entry though due to it having the worste narration possible. The reader is dry and emotionless and adds in all sorts of strange pauses and inflections where they don't belong. It's so distracting that you just can't get into the story. Picture if Steven Segal and William Shatner had a baby. That baby then grew up to read audio books. Out of the hundreds of audio books I have listened to this is by a long shot the worst narration.

Worst narrator in the history of narration

This is a very good story, however I chose to read the book since the narrator is the worst in narration history. He makes a good books sound terrible. I couldn’t even listen past the first 4 minutes. The most annoying voice and pacing. He should quit before he ruins more books.

Thankfully they went back to Eric G Dove for the next book in the series.

Good story ruined by poor performance.

The cadence and monotone voice ruined it for me. I couldn't focus on the story.

great series - horrible delivery

This is such a great series, but each narrator brought in has gotten progressively worst. The delivery for this book is such a painful listen that it's almost hard to keep listening.

The performer doesn't even bother pronouncing the names of the established characters the same as the past performers. Its like listening to Microsoft Word narrating a horribly punctuated document in 1996.

entertaining

I love this series but this one had either the worst narrator or editing job I've ever heard. Lots of studders and mispronounceations I've heard so far in the series.

Worst narration ever

It says a lot about an audiobook when one decides that the narration takes centre stage of one's book review. While I enjoyed the story, the narration simply was not enjoyable. I am hesitant to become personal, but Martin Gollery sounded like a singing robot most of the time. I even started thinking of him as a poor man's John Malkovich. It detracted from an otherwise enjoyable story.

This book was better than the others in the series so far. There were a couple of great scenes, such as the battle at Easter Island. The editing seemed tighter, and as a whole, the story wasn't as disjointed as some of the previous books.

All in all, a good book but for the narration. Otherwise, I would have easily scored it 4 stars.
