Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark. Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot. But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life.

Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.

This saga dares to ask a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails?

Ocean's 11 with magic

What starts out as your typical heist story with a new gal brought in as the apprentice to a well known and successful thief and lovable rogue turns into an epic story of learning to trust, breaking preconceptions, and learning to fight for something more then what your base desires are. I was highly impressed with this story after reading Brandon's works on the Wheel of time as well as The Way of Kings and look forward to reading more from him int he future.

Simply fantastic.

I absolutely loved this book. If you're a fan of fantasy, get this book. The characters are fantastic and full of life, the world is enthralling, and the narrator is fantastic. I was a tad worried as one of the main character was a women bring narrated by a man, but he did a fantastic job and l hardly noticed it.

A truly epic adventure that is just the beginning.

I loved going through all of this with Vin. Growing, losing, reaching new levels as the world she knows expands around her. The author not only creates an amazing world of mistlings and mistborn(super powered but far from invincible heros/villains) but a truly deep and realistic world for them to inhabit. The narrator does an amazing job of immersing you in it as well.

chapter break ups are poor

the chapters that audible created to do not match the chapters in the book. it made being able to keep up with the story a little difficult because I use chapter length to see how much time I have to listen to another chapter or two. there are 36 chapters in the book, but audible only breaks the book in to 20 chapters.

Wonderful!

My friend time me to try Brandon Sanderson's books, and I am very glad! I had a hard time putting it down, surprised in plot helped me, and a great way to explain things without taking away from the story, but adding to it. I really liked the narrator too!
