Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history - or religion.

Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice. One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will.

After 20 years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.

Sanderson bring a little old west to the mists.

I really enjoyed this book. Very likeable characters. aAs always the way Sanderson describes his action scenes is top-notch. I love the Western vibe that he brings, you don't really get that in fantasy too often. It's a little short compared to some of his other novels but there's no downtime. Highly recommended this book if you enjoyed the other mistborn novels.

Excellent Read!

Where does The Alloy of Law rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Michael Kramer does a wonderful job with narrating by using voices and accents specific to each character. The book itself is very well written, as one would expect from Brandon Sanderson, and the idea behind magic in his Mistborn series is pure genius. The only reason I didn't rate the story a 5 is because this book has more of a western flair (guns) to it and I prefer fantasy with swords. Great book though!

one of my favorite books ever

This book along with the first in the series (the final empire) are probably tied for my favorite book. In addition to being phenomenal pieces of literature the narrator (Michal Kramer) did a wonderful job with his wife variety of voices, and the proficiency at which he matched the characters with their respective personalities.

A Mistborn Western? Yes Please.

What about Michael Kramer’s performance did you like?

Michael Kramer does a good performance in this book. A man with a deep voice who can do passable voices for female characters. But he really, really, needs to work on his Australian accent.

Won me over despite initial skepticism

If you haven't read anything else by Brandon Sanderson, don't start here. Run right over to the Mistborn trilogy!

Like other reviewers here, I was skeptical about the more modern setting. I jumped into this book directly after finishing the Mistborn trilogy. It was a pretty abrupt culture shock going from that to a western style novel.

To be honest, I almost returned the book multiple times - just chocking it up to the fact that it wasn't my style. Eventually the story hooked me, though, and I had to finish it. While westerns still really aren't my thing, it was well written and the characters were engaging. I'm sure I'll end up reading the next one when it comes out.

I do really miss not having any actual mistborn in the book. The twinborn are interesting, but not nearly as exciting.

Easily the best Sanderson novel I've read yet.

I'm here after reading The Mistborn Trilogy and both Stormlight books. Easily my favorite yet.
