    "Jerky horrible narration."

I messed up and got another book with this narrator. He is horrible and I don't think I can listen to the book. He can't seem.....to just read......the book without these odd.......jerky pauses that don't ........belong in the story. I can't believe anyone would pay him to read their books.

    "Great Title"
    Any additional comments?

The Title lured me into reading this book. I enjoyed the action when the volcano erupted and things started to happen, how much the ash covered, how far it effected, the impact on peoples lives, their transportation, and the overall disruption to the country and even beyond...now that was entertaining for me. Unfortunately, that is only a small fraction of the book. The rest of the book is about a cop and his life, ex-wife, kids, girlfriend, etc... boring.
The narrator was hard for me to follow, he typically used the same voice tones for characters, I didn't always know who he was until he'd note it. I read the entire book but it was hard for me at times not to abandon it. I would have enjoyed it more if it covered more about the havoc caused by the volcano...and different narrator.

    "The Volcano that Didn't!"

I was absolutely geeked for this book. I'm a long-time visitor to Yellowstone and was excited to hear Harry Turtledove was applying his incredible mind to the effects of its possible explosion.

The volcano did explode. But, the way Turtledove describes it, it really didn't matter. The characters aren't really effected. In fact, so much of the book deals with the characters going about their life with the slightest alteration. The volcano is such a background element. There was no excitement, no adventure, nothing thrilling. Near the end of the book, Turtledove gets distracted by a gynecologist visit and proceeds to describe the visit in detail. Earlier, but not much, two lead characters have lunch and order a BLT . . . a volcano just exploded and the characters don't really care!

Vanessa's story was the only one that seemed at all interesting but it simply went no where.!

This was horrible. I'm hoping this was just a fluke book for Turtledove. Please, please, if you haven't bought this, stop -- don't waste your money.

"First Audiobook I stopped listening to."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I thought the voice narration was horrible, the person reading paused way too much between sentences and after about 5 minutes of listening I wanted to reach into my headphones and put him along. There was no flow and the narration did not build excitement as it should have as the story progressed.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something other than Turtledove, I have read one of his books and did not like it, I thougth that, this being something out of the normal arena of what he does might be a bit better, but it was actually a bit worse.

What didn???t you like about Jim Frangione???s performance?

    Any additional comments?

Others may like this novel, but I would not recommend it. There was no flow to the story, no real excitement portrayed and the voice acting was not up to par with the 50+ other audiobooks that I have listened to. It was truly not an enjoyable experience. I stopped listening after the first half of the book, as I could not take it anymore.

"Kind of a dull suspense book"

story line was weak, the description of what a volcano is was poor mostly just about personal adventures during an eruption that left much to be desired in completion of what was and finally happened to all of the main charracters esplecialy the killer that the cops was looking that was a real let down no ending no real investigation but I listened to it to the end and as a book that I could have done without it wasn't as bad as some that I've listened thru

    "The Real Turtledove is Back"

To be fair, most reviewers have not liked this book much. I did. Turtledove's metier is character development, involving relatively ordinary (and not always even likeable) people trying to live ordinary lives against the background of bizarre events. The events themselves are rarely viewed in broad. Instead, we get short glimpses from many angles, reflected from shards of a fragmented mirror, as these events affect individual lives. In Supervolcano, Turtledove returns to this technique in a setting where, in its initial stages, humans are essentially powerless to do anything other than try to cling onto the remnants of normal life. Obviously, this isn't going to work, any more than it did in Niven/Pournelle's Lucifer's Hammer or Stirling's Dies the Light. But unlike the last named books, Supervolcano shows society crumbling in slow motion -- a great setting for Turtledove's brand of character novel.

I doubt this series will be as good as Turtledove's enormous set of CSA stories. Frankly, nothing else ever will be, from Turtledove or from anyone else. But this is a very promising start.

    "who wrote this?"
What would have made Supervolcano better?

This is not up to anything close to par for Dr. Turtledove? Was this ghostwritten????

What was most disappointing about Harry Turtledove’s story?

It dragged and the plot line was "jumpy"

What aspect of Jim Frangione’s performance would you have changed?

not the reader, the book was just not up to Turtledove's yarn spinning ability, maybe a writers timeline???

Not a very good choice for folks that are into 'survial' fiction, not quite sure who would like it.

    "SO DISAPPOINTED!!!"
What would have made Supervolcano better?

Characters that a person can relate to and have some feeling for, one way or another.

Would you ever listen to anything by Harry Turtledove again?

Of course! Turtledove is one of my favorite authors for the alternative civil war timeline series. I hope he returns to this timeline at some point. However, I have been disappointed with his other works, including the Atlantis series.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The description of the eruption of said supervolcano and the immediate after effects was enjoyable and interesting. Unfortunately, the rest of the story drags and is burdened with unpleasant and unrelatable characters.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Supervolcano?

I think I would have to start from scratch.

    Any additional comments?

    You can do better, Harry.
