Kyle Riggs has been away from Earth for a long time… but that's about to change.
In Storm Assault , the eighth book of the Star Force series, the story moves in a new direction. Massive fleets are built by both Star Force and the Imperials - but there is a third player in the game: the Blues.
A three-way battle for the known star systems breaks out, with the fates of many worlds and species hanging in the balance. Riggs realizes he must destroy his enemies before they destroy him. Seeking justice and revenge, he gathers his strength and ventures out on a mission of conquest from the Eden System. Humanity must fight to survive, and Riggs is the right man for the job.
Storm Assault is a military science-fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson. To listen to the series in its entirety, start with Swarm (Book 1).

I'm obsessed with audible
I am shocked. Fans who've been following the series know that Krowe needs to be taken down and now it's about to happen. But it's not JUST Emperor Krowe and the Imperialists Kyle has to worry about. The Blues have been up to no good and show their hand before Kyle and crew can even make it out of the Eden system to return to earth.
What new abomination has The Blues created this time. How can they possible return to Earth and overthrow Krowe? What kinds of traps has Krowe laid for them along the journey back? What new creatures will we meet? What woman will Kyle choose? What's Marvin going to get into?
This is what we've all been waiting for and it isn't predictable and doesn't disappoint. I can't wait for more. I missed Sandra though. What a loss.
As always Mark Boyett does a phenomenal job narrating. I really enjoy his voice for Marvin and The Blues. He really brings out the humor.
Seeing the Blues attempt to fight back.
Crow and Riggs meeting after all the years, and seeing what Crowe had done to himself in his fear over Riggs and Star Force.
General Kerr being caught by Star Force.
When Crowe attempts to kill Jasmine.
A good book. Again you can see its just a set up book for whats to come. But its by no means a bad book!!! Riggs has grown and changed a lot since the beginning. He is still having to come to terms over Sandra and hopefully with this he can finally close that chapter and move on to face the Macros and Blues. The Macros have been awfully quiet and I think they will be back with a vengeance since they failed to take Earth.
This was a nice end to an epic series that didn't seem too self indulgent. Very well done. When's book 9 coming out ? i want to know what's going to happen to the Macros and Blues and The Herd, the worms and all the others.....
Sandra's death, rebirth, then second death and rebirth and third death...
Do more Starforce books.
Did you know you can put in a set of Ear-Buds, slap your Hearing Protectors over them, and Mow the lawn, Weed-Eat, etc, without your book being drowned out by engine noise? I recently listened to "Augustus" while wandering through the Roman Forum. I'm on my third set of "Sleep-Phones". I've been addicted to audible since 2004... I think my friends are starting to suspect I have a problem ;)
The EIGHTH book in this series and I still couldn't stop listening until it was finished! I listened to it straight through! THAT is the way to write a series!!!
I was impressed with the way Mr. Larson finished the book too... It could be a "Solid Ending", OR it could continue!
WAY TO GO LARSON!!!!
With the 8th installment of Star Force, Riggs finally makes the decision to save Earth from Crowe. This time out, the design of ever more esoteric nanotized military hardware takes a backseat to political musings and truly alien inventions. Needless to say, nothing goes as planned for Riggs, but he remains ever the opportunist and creates creative solutions for both his new worst enemies, the blues, as well as the Earth defenses.
This time out gravity manipulators are exploited. At the same time Earth has been busy on its own with nightmarish creations of cyborgs as well as as redefined biology. The conclusion is satisfying on many levels and has Riggs entering a new phase of his career, but one that is likely not to be interesting to recount in the future. Alternatively, perhaps Riggs may eventually develop that wanderlust and return to the stars one day for more adventures.
The narration is adequate and complements the pace and style of the story.
You really believe that Star Force was clearly out matched and out gun the whole book- which is a fun angle to explore and that mastermind that is Kyle Riggs has some serious flaws which could lead to the end of Star Force.
Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series has a similar leading protagonist and style of writing
Mark Boyett is solid reader- I have listen to all of the BV Larson books that he has read in this series
A couple of spots in the booked moved me- I was so caught up in the the story by the end I had a hard time putting the headphones down.
Great series. The story line is getting to a point that needs some refreshing but I can't want to see what happens next.
Fantastic, edge of your seat goodness. Great descriptions, but want more. I'd like B.V.Larson to pace the story like in the beginning of the series. Straight through listen.

Only gets better
Storm ship troopers because it is a space military sci-fi of high caliber
He brings a certain level of dramaticism to the series that I think it needs to become the magnificent story it is
I will say that sometimes I feel that B.V. Larson sometimes draws his characters into fairly simplistic creatures. I say this because every now and then I find myself rolling my eyes at a piece of dialogue or maybe a scenario that is a little silly because I don't feel anyone would really do that. It is rare but I do find it happening. Otherwise the series has been a lot of fun to follow from the beginning and every time I see a new installment has been released, I know where my next credit is going. Just sit back and enjoy an easy listen that is a lot of bang for your buck.
When i first noticed this book was available,it had two reviews. One made this story out to seem like it was all about Gains and Riggs and boring, the other made it out to be the literary masterpiece of 2013. Both of those reviews weren't very good.
This was in my opinion, another good story in the Star Force series. It has everything we all have come to expect and enjoy. Riggs doing things and never explaining them to his officers,Quan cracking you up with his one liners, and Marvin irritating the crap out of you with his twisting of orders. Plus some small twists in the end that some of us may have seen coming. BUT! You are left to your own imagination as to weather someone is still around or not............
I like this book,i didnt love it. It does seem to be the end of the series but thats ok. This is a series that i will come back to in a year or so and re-listen to every book back to back. Thanks BV!
Great story with loads of action. The very end was kinda whimpy. I hope this is not the last book of the saga, there is so much more that could be told.
