Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

The story keeps you waiting for what comes next. There is enough going on to keep a person wrapped in the story.

The robotic narration was the most jarring I've ever heard. The narrator also got lazy at times, dropping a voice mid paragraph. I would have skipped listening to the book if it wasn't one of my favorites.

Worst narrator ever

I have read this book a few times and I listen to audio books at work near constantly. I’ve listened to hundreds of audio books. This narrator is the worst I’ve ever heard and bounces between reading robotically to voice acting that doesn’t work. Is almost like the narrator doesn’t understand acting or emotions. This is the most dysfunctional audio book narration I’ve ever listened to. It’s almost as bad as a cold read.

Amazing story, terrible narration

I LOVE the entire series, and I’ve read them myself multiple times before I got the Audible to listen on long car rides. Book 1 narration was amazing, I could hear each character, although I don’t expect readers to be able to do that. Book 2’s narration was disappointing, even distracting. First, the difference from book 1 to book 2 in Zedd was shocking. Then, all of the female voices sounded pouty and affected, like a bad drag impersonation of a woman. Only near the end did I hear any kind of actual voice acting, whenever someone yelled “Noooooooo!” The reading was so monotonous that I often fell asleep, making this NOT the book to listen to while driving. I took to reading my hard copy after sleeping through whole chapters to catch up before trying to listen again.

I hope this narrator isn’t the one for the remainder of the series.

Worst narrator EVER !

I would have sworn this was read by a computer generated voice ! Was he forced to read this book or is it that he just didn't like it ? Either way he hard to listen to to completion . The story was the only reason to suffer through it ! On to book three and hopefully a better narrator. Thanks for letting me vent !

Great storyline

The story was excellent! The narrator seemed frustratingly monotone at first, but once you get used to it then you no longer notice it and get wrapped up in the story instead.

great book! terrible audio.

I read these books a few years ago and loved them. After going to college and working so much, I found a love for these books again and got the first audiobook. AMAZING. Of course I got the 2nd after.... I managed to get to chapter 2 before I had to stop. Not only was the voice putting me to sleep, it sounded all the same. It was like an automated voice you get calling a 1-800 number. Very dissapointed. Will just have to find more time to read the original.

Outstanding book

I have read all the books before however hearing it read to me allowed me to learn more in depth the rules and teaching Terry Goodkind has to offer. Much like how "The Adventures of Bonnie Day" taught Richard many things, these story's teach me much also.

Oh to be deaf....

Jim Bond, the narrator and possible replicant, needs to be stopped. I am building a time machine as we speak to travel back in time and coerce Brilliance Audio into recasting with Sam Tsoutsouvas from the first novel. We only have one chance to right this wrong.
Please PM me with you designs for a flux capacitor. Let's get this going.

Please Audible, recommission a special edition with improved narration!!!

BTW, the story is GREAT, making the narration that much more acutely painful.

Good Book

Narrator could be better but it was a good book. The way that the story ebs and flows between lines does so seemlessly and is created to draw you into the story.

Good story- Go back to the old Narrator

I was sold after the first book and figured I'd found the first series I've really gotten into since Joe Abercrombie's Trilogy but when I bought the 2nd book and pushed play I was thoroughly disappointed. I will be chugging through this book, however, I probably won't buy the 3rd.
