Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

Great story but some issues

As many others have stated the reader is nowhere near as good as the first book. It did get better towards the end. I found more bothersome at two points in the book there were sections skipped. One of them being at a high point near the end of the book. I went back several times and it didn’t jump ahead in time, but there was clearly a section of the story missed. Really hoping I don’t run into this on the next book.

Great Stroy, Needs a new narrator

I read the paper version of this series when it first came out I don't know how many years ago and decided to give it a try on Audible, I loved it then and really love the story line now but one of the downfall of the series is they change narrators throughout the series. I liked the narrator in the first book and hope the new narrator is better than this one. I think if he would have been the narrator of the first book I would have given up and just re-read the paper version of this series again.

Best Shota sob ever!

gave me chills when Jim Bond narrated the interaction between shota and Richard in the Mud people's village.

Voice actor is so unbelievably, horribly terrible.

As many other reviews have pointed out, Jim Bond has no business being a voice actor. If the story wasn't so darn good, I'd have given up on this book immediately. If you are checking reviews before buying this audiobook, do yourself a favor and go with the physical copy. Jim absolutely ruins this one. I cannot be overstated how badly he butchers this book.

The good:
- The story. It's a fitting sequel to the first. Just plain terrific.

The ok:
- Maybe I'm being a little OCD, but it's as if he went out of his way to write "breasts" as much as possible. A woman can't just "fold her arms" in this universe I guess.
- Richard's reaction to the big "betrayal" doesn't come off as believable or in character in my opinion, but I have a suspicion that Jim's voice acting has something to do with that.

The bad:
- Jim Bond. Seriously this guy is horrible. I will not be buying the audiobooks that he reads later on in the series. He reads action scenes as if he's bored, his inflections are completely unnatural, and holy smokes his 'voices' are painful. Everyone's an Irish robot or something? The mud people are cavemen? You'll get higher quality reading from 3rd graders. Another's comment that Siri would have been preferable is spot on.

Excellent book average narrator.

Book 2 of the sword of truth was just as or more exciting than book 1. Unfortunately it took half the book to get use to the Narrator and I’m not sure I actually did. Just loved the story too much to quit. Definitely give this book a read or listen if you enjoyed book 1.

Great story, poor narration

After listening to the first book this narrator left a lot to be desired. Very wooden and uninteresting.

Terrible narrator

He makes really tough to listen to. Robotic reading of some of the characters ruins their roll in the story.
