Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

Nooooooooo!

the outcries of "No!" detract from the emotions of the person who said it. word of warning: Rape is frequent in the book, so beware all those with triggers

Good Read and Great continuation

This book picks up right were the previous one left off. This book splits and follows a few of the characters on there different paths. This book is more involved than the first, but the story is still just as great as the first book. The narration was not as good as the first book. The narrator starts off almost robotic, but slowly gets better. There are many adult situations in this book and it is not for young readers.

Good story, bad narration

Jim Bond is no actor. He seems well suited to the more informational material that makes up half his catalog on audible but not well suited to stories. He has a good voice but there is no believable emotion in his performance. His characters all sound very similar as well. Imagine a less nasal Ben Stein reading you a story and you get the jist. All emotional scenes come off stilted and awkward and you're just happy when you get through them. If you can read this one yourself then I recommend you do so. The story itself is great and worth the read however.

GREAT BOOK! Gawd Awful Narrator :-(

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I seldom leave ratings but ... This is the worst narrative I have yet to experience in my 4 years membership with Audible. The narration is mostly flat, without motion. At times mechanical. When characters change the voices are just strange.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Richard of course is my most favorite character. Although, he is quite foolish at times. The television series ruined this series of books. I have found weekly television serial a chopped and minced license of a TV director. I am glad I've found time to finally to experience the full series and delve in the full story as written by Terry Goodkind.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Bond?

Sam Tsoutsouvas

Do you think Stone of Tears needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, absolutely. This book needs a new reading.

Any additional comments?

For you members PLEASE a new narrator.

excellent

At first I was angry about the narrator swap from Sam Tsoutsavas to Jim Bond due to an almost robot voice, but as after the first couple of chapters he seemed to adapt to the feel of the book and he ended up doing great! This book as some of my favorite parts from the Sword of Truth series.

Terrible reader

The gentleman reading this book is monotone and mechanical. It's difficult to get through. Plus he mispronounced a lot of the words

Not a fan of the narrator

I enjoy the stories but this narrator doesn't pronounce some of the names correctly which was very annoying.

Great book

Great book. I have read a lot of books out of this series and they are consistently good.
Wasn't too keen about the performance. There was times wheee it felt like the characters were either robots, dimwitted or severe and cold. At times it really killed it for me. Not my favorite reading, but also not the worse reading either.
