Here is a special edition 20th anniversary release of the number-one New York Times best-selling novel that reignited the entire Star Wars publishing phenomenon - unabridged for the first time. The biggest event in the history of Star Wars books, Heir to the Empire follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after they led the Rebel Alliance to victory in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.
Five years after the Death Star was destroyed and Darth Vader and the Emperor were defeated, the galaxy is struggling to heal the wounds of war, Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins, and Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of new Jedi Knights.
But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords - the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. For this dark warrior has made two vital discoveries that could destroy everything the courageous men and women of the Rebel Alliance fought so hard to create.
The explosive confrontation that results is a towering epic of action, invention, mystery, and spectacle on a galactic scale - in short, a story worthy of the name Star Wars.

Loved the continued story and voices. The sound effects too! Voices sounded just like the characters! No other audio books I've found can do that!!
All of them.
Nope first one.
The light saber fights with all the sound effects.
On to the next book!
Absolutely enthralling. Don't pass this up! Thrawn is as terrifying if nor more so than Vader and you're missing out on an AMAZING slice of the universe if you pass this up.
Great Star Wars story true to the spirit! I only wish they had made these sequels instead of the prequels we received. Only minor complaint sometimes the females characters sound the same but That's it. Great story great reading!
Only to a Star Wars fan. The story is just not that good. The real problem is that the new characters are not as compelling as the ones from the original trilogy of films.
I have not listed to any other of Mr. Thompson's performances. However, the additional sound effects added to the reading greatly enhance the quality of the audio book experience.
If your equipment doesn't work, try being a little smarter.
The story is a well written continuation of the Star Wars Legacy. what impressed me the most, however, was the incorporation of multiple voices, sound effects, and music. it was as much fun to listen to as the movies are to watch.
This is on of the best performances I have ever listened to, audio book wise. With that said, it ranks at 4 stars in my book (no pun intended) because of the wookie voice. I found that when Marc Thompson (or who ever voiced the wookies) narrated the wookie, his (their) voice was so grating that I had to turn it off. Other then that, A++.
First off, as a reference for you who've read books like the Bane trilogy, Plagueis, Clone Wars The gambit series, Deceived, The Rise of Darth Vader and the like; this is definitively on par, both story and performance wise.
What you can expect from this book is a solid story with the classic Star Wars characters like Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Wedge and more, bundled together with some other lesser known, but very interesting, characters from before and during the Clone Wars. The story is well written from all the different characters point of view and let's you know what they think, both in victory and defeat.
This book plays out after the re-conquering of Coruscant and really makes an effort of going to the next step in the story. I can't wait to dive into the next two books.
The performance is as always excellent. Mark Thompson is as usual a master story teller and makes it both very immersive and easy to follow along.
To sum it up: A solid story told in a beautiful way that shows us what the rebellion is up against after the battle of Endor and re-conquering of Coruscant. How is Luke's abilities progressing, what happens with Leia and Han, where's Lando? And what about the remnants of the Empire? Even though someone dies, their name still wield power and their legacy continues.
