The biggest event in the history of Star Wars books, Heir to the Empire follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after they led the Rebel Alliance to victory in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Five years after the Death Star was destroyed and Darth Vader and the Emperor were defeated, the galaxy is struggling to heal the wounds of war, Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins, and Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of new Jedi Knights.

But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords - the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. If you could sum up Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) in three words, what would they be?

    Episode 7

What other book might you compare Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) to and why?

Any Star Wars books writing by Timothy Zahn.

What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?

Everything. His characterizations were great. I would put him up there with Jim Dale.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Episode 7 Heir to the Empire

    Any additional comments?

This is a game changer in audio. It goes beyond just reading the book. It has a Star Wars soundtrack. It has sound effects. Just the little things like it sounding like your on the bridge when the book is on a space ship makes this incredible.

"The Star Wars of my childhood"
Where does Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've tried a few Star Wars books and comics before and didn't have to high expectations for this one, but decided to give it a try since it gets so much rave.

This is more like a radio play than an audiobook. Which suits the story very well.
I have to say the this trilogy is the best experience I have had with audio books so far.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how it brought back the feeling I remembered from watching the original Star Wars movies back in the old days. It does take the time to introduce us to the characters while moving the story along.

Which character – as performed by Marc Thompson – was your favorite?

Han Solo was my favorite. Han always supplies comic relief in tense situations. He is very much the same character as in the movies, and it really sounds like Harrison Ford. Though I'm not sure Marc Thompson is doing all the voices, or if they had a few voice actors do some lines. If he did he has an really impressive range. All the female voices are obviously performed by a man though.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wouldn't call it extreme but i certainly chuckled more than once.

    Any additional comments?

You do have to read all three of the books to get the whole story but they can be enjoyed separately.

I guess these books came out before the prequel movies and I did note a few inconsistencies in the Star Wars universe, but these books are far more enjoyable.

I would listen to this story again because it is so well written and performed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Admiral Thrawn was my favorite character because he has so much depth.

What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?

He really is THE actor for Star Wars reading... so many great voices and such good pacing.

    "WOW!"
Would you listen to Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) again? Why?

I defiantly will. It's just like watching the episode 7 and by that I mean it's feel like a movie and not a book. The sound effects and the voices made by Thompson, gives this audio-book a special feel to it.

I especial love the new character Talon Karrde. The "neutral" smuggler who have don't want to choose between the republic and the empire, but gets caught in the middle of it all. I really hope that they going to make the rest of the series like this book.

What other book might you compare Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) to and why?

Really haven't listen/read that many books, so no.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voices of the characters. He gets very close to the actors from the movie and he has some good voices for the new ones too. The music and effects also have to be included here because they are also a really important part of what makes this book better as a audio-book than me reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Empire strikes back yet again :P

    Any additional comments?

Please make the rest of the series like this one! please!

    "I just could not enjoy..."

I don't know why, but I just could not enjoy this audio book. the story seemed so good but it just sounds dull and uninteresting when I hear the narrator. I read the book since and loved it so maybe it just wasn't the narrator I wanted to hear..

"Star Wars: HttE (20th An. ed) is TOTALLY worth it!"
What made the experience of listening to Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) the most enjoyable?

They utilized fantastic voice acting and environment sounds. The soundtrack (ambient sounds and music) really added to the experience. I felt like I was watching one of the Star Wars films!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition)?

When I first realized the soundtrack would be used throughout the book; it really adds to the story.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He does a fantastic job interpreting the characters and expressing their emotions. I had previously read the story and felt like I picked up a lot more from listening to his interpretation vs. just reading it myself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, certain parts made me laugh. More it brought back all of the emotion and joy of watching the original Star Wars trilogy.

    Any additional comments?

This is a fantastic audio book adaptation; this is the new bar by which I will judge all other audio books.

    "Marc Thompson - FTW!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Unabridged. Marc Thompson. - Seriously all you need. I think we are at the point where it is safe to say that Lucas Arts needs to get this guy to read all the EU books.

What did you like best about this story?

I read the book when it came out. What I like best at this point is getting to hear it read by Marc Thompson. The production value is top notch.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene with Leia on Kashyyk when the Nogri recognizes her scent as a Skywalker.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Heir to the Empire.

Its a perfect tag line because it has two possibilities. Is Leia the heir or is Thrawn?

Where does Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Wooh hooh. I have waited forever for an unabridged version for this book (and others in the series). Well it is here and is among the best performances I have ever heard. Marc Thompson is an amazing narrator. He nails the character voices (well the male ones anyway) we all know and love, and brings to life the other characters new to this wonderful expanded universe.I recommend that you all give this book a listen. Especially those who love Star Wars.Phil

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition)?

The most memorable part for me in the book is where you find out that the Emporer was controlling the troops at Endor.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He just NAILS the characters of Luke, Han, Lando, etc. All of them are amazing!

    Any additional comments?

Read the book any way you can but listening to this is just the best.

    Great Unabridged Story!

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Marc Thompson's delivery of all of the characterless from the classic to the expanded universe are excellent. He adds a dimension to the story that places you in the moment. It would not be the same without him.
