Brilliant story!

One of the best Star Wars novels I've encountered. Luceno has brought to life the sinister background to rise of the Sith.

Absolutely stunning reading

They brought one of the most important stories in Star Wars history to life in an incredible book.

amazing as always.

I've read this book a few times, but listening to the audiobook was like experiencing the story for the very first time. the different voices for the different characters really brought life to characters that I've read in a different way. I cannot wait to listen to this again.

Amazing

Awesome story complete with amazing SFX and music. Was like listening to a movie and you can picture everything in your head as you're listening.

Captivating

Greatly enjoyed this audiobook. it had no problem holding my attention. Since Lucas approved of Filoni adding Vergence Scatter to Disney SW via Rebels, I gladly accept all of "Legends" as Canon.

What a pleasant surprise

I have not read much Star Wars books yet, because I am quite picky with books containing enough of “food for thoughts” and also original Thrawn trilogy has set high standarts, also I have never been much into Sith and the Dark side (more like Jedi and the Light side idealist), but I have to say, that I was blown out. I half expected much more of “fan service” when trying to tie this book to prequel movies, but maaaan, was I corrected in the most pleasant way. Naboo, Tatooine and other things related to the movies were so nicely flashed out and given so much back stories and I have finally understood why so many things were happening as they were (for example blockade from the beginning of Ep. 1), but all other, “hidden” aspects of the world, manipulations, machinations and other things, so well though out and written, I am so happy to listen to this! I can finally understand why Jedi order has really been actually stuck and stagnating and needed to refresh - though very tragic and cruel, it gave chance to Luke to find a new way for the Jedi order and I have never thought I will root for the Sith lord :D I really love this book and also narrator did amazing job!
I was actually not bing-listening to this one, because I was enjoying it so much, that I was dreading getting closer to the end of it, so I was listening by smaller bits to extend time for which I can look forward to another listening session :)

the force

it is a great book it very very enjoyable experiens it was very eye-opening into the Sith world of the force.

Great book!(but can be hard to follow)

This book sets up the events that transpired in The Phantom Menace, and in that movie a lot of it involves politics. So this books hardest to follow when all of these political events are going on.
However it is well worth it as we see the rise of Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis. This book answers a lot of the plot holes often found in the prequel series and fleshes them out to explain how Sidious ultimately rose to become the Emperor.

Use Daniel Davis as the narrator more often.

Good story with outstanding narration, which made it into a better than average audio.

Amazing! Should be canon.

This was really quite an amazing story. I can’t believe I never listened to it before. The way it connects with the prequels and fills in the gaps I’ve always wondered about is very well done.

While a compelling story about a relative unknown in Darth Plagueis, it is a sort of origin story of Palpatine as well. It is expertly written and incredibly voiced. I want to see this as a movie and I’m already planning another listen.

This is now one of my all-time favorite Star Wars stories. I wish it was part of the new Disney line of books.
