Publisher's Summary

The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord - Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away by the Emperor on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the galaxy.

Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republican Council - only to discover instead a ghostly fleet of warships that could bring doom to their friends and victory to their enemies.

Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness...and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

    "Marc Thompson Delivers Again!"
    Any additional comments?

Having listened to the First volume of the Thrawn Series done by Thompson, I knew I had to wait until he completed his versions of the second two volumes. I am glad I waited. The story is excellent, as most people already know. However, Thompson gives an excellent performance enhanced by a great and not overbearing soundtrack, deliver an amazing entertainment experience. Get this audio-book, you will not be disappointed.

    "UNABRIDGED!!"

Finally the unabridged version. What more could you want? Marc Thompson did a great job with the reading and the production quality seems to be on pair with all the other Star Wars books. I would say this is a must have.

I like my horror, techno-thrillers, and science fiction. Which is why Jurassic Park and The Lost World are 2 of my favorite books ever!

    "The adventure continues..."

Following in the footsteps of last year's 20th anniversary release of Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire, Marc Thompson delivers another perfect performance with this second installment of The Thrawn Trilogy. For the uninitiated, this series' popularity helped launch the expanded universerse we all take for granted now. For example, the 'Imperial Planet' was first named Coruscant in this trilogy. If you enjoyed it as much as I did, this audiobook will make you want to listen to the third and final book, The Last Command, thankfully also available unabridged and narrated by Marc Thompson. The Force is strong with this one!

"Marc Thompson,Timothy Zahn what else do you need?"
    Any additional comments?

Marc Thompson' performance of this brilliant story is second to none. He created voices for previously unknown characters and did a fantastic job on mimicing the characters we all know from the first three films. His portrayal of Grand Admiral Thrawn really made the character come to life. He was menacing and always in control. Really great series.

    "Excellent Performance"
Would you consider the audio edition of Star Wars: Dark Force Rising to be better than the print version?

This book (and the others in the trilogy) are an excellent performace by Marc Thompson. He mimics the character voices beautifully. The sound affects also make it much more exciting. I'm glad I purchased these.

    "Unnecessary Book"
What made the experience of listening to Star Wars: Dark Force Rising the most enjoyable?

    The narration is masterful!

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This should be a two book series.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The scenes with the Nogri

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wouldn't make a movie about an unnecessary book.

    Any additional comments?

The series starts off great, but then it drags on and on. I found myself zoning out through a lot of the book because there are huge portions that just very compelling.

"Marc Thompson is a Master Jedi!"
What made the experience of listening to Star Wars: Dark Force Rising the most enjoyable?

    1. Marc Thompson
    2. sound effects (not overwhelming, just right, enjoyable!)
    3. unabridged, I will only buy unabridged at this point, to bad they chopped a few good series buy going cheap and doing abridged. kills the authors book! ( But this one is great, unabridged, worht every penny)
These there items will purchase more books. Ill spend money if these three items are met.Simple. I wish allot of the sifi classics were redone with these three items mentioned.

What other book might you compare Star Wars: Dark Force Rising to and why?

heir tot h empire, book 1. Not many this is cream of the crop. A movie for your mind.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

In-depth character voices, unique for each person/ alien. Spot on for Han, Lando (my fav), narrated with the right level for the parts he is reading. simply the best out there. my complements to him and random house.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    n/a

"Solid second act of the Thrawn sequel"

There is no letup in the second installment of this trilogy (not unlike the original Star Wars trilogy). Zahn continues to move the story along with a quick pace, fleshing out his new cast of characters and expanding the Star Wars universe.

One of Zahn's strengths is his use of the "stars" of the original series - the fan favorites get a chance to grow during the story but aren't radically different from the characters we love. Unfortunately other Star Wars authors aren't as disciplined (I'm looking at you K.W. Jeter).

The one additional star in this production is the narration work of Marc Thompson. His performance is spot on, including the well known characters. His Lando, or Han Solo, or even Admiral Ackbar are instantly recognizable and sincere, not over-the-top caricatures. If they made this trilogy into an animated mini-series they could save money and just hire him for all the voice work.
