The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord - Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away by the Emperor on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule throughout the galaxy.
Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republican Council - only to discover instead a ghostly fleet of warships that could bring doom to their friends and victory to their enemies.
Yet most dangerous of all is a new Dark Jedi, risen from the ashes of a shrouded past, consumed by bitterness...and scheming to corrupt Luke Skywalker to the Dark Side.

This is another fantastic story done by Zahn. He continues right where he left off with Heir to the Empire. He perfectly integrates all the best parts of Star Wars, mainly the characters. He captures the true essence of what makes every character so beloved. Marc Thompson does an amazing job enhancing this through his vocal performance. This is a wonderful production.
There are some dull moments and several tiresome tropes peppered throughout the story, but the characters are well-presented, the story is engaging, and it's hard to take a break once you've started listening! Overall, this follows the classic "Empire Strikes Back" motif of struggle, darkness, and hope for a happy conclusion. Rife with intrigue and fantastically read, this is a can't miss story for any Star Wars fan!
The performance was admirable, but the writing lacks the spirit of Star Wars. Weak characters, pacing, and overall writing leave this reading more like a low rate, generic sci-fi instead of the magic of the space fantasy we've come to know and love.
Thompson's performance of Zahn's story is simply spectacular. I feel you like Star Wars, you will love this.
