Avalon was the flagship of the Castle Federation in the last war, now 20 years past. But Avalon has been a backwater posting for 10 years and has problems a mere refit can't fix. The systems along her planned tour have been seeing pirates for the first time in decades, and there are rumblings of Commonwealth scouting ships all along the border. It may be Avalon's final tour, but it looks to be anything but quiet.

Not thrilled but....

I bought this book over a year ago and did listen to it but forgot about it. I then got the authors first Starship Mage book and was immediately hooked on that series. Waiting for new books in that series and the Duchess of Terra series I kept seeing new installments for this series, Castle Federation, and finally decided out of desperation for a new book to try the series. SURPRISE! I found I had the first book but didn't remember it so I downloaded it and listened again. Same reaction, not terrible but not memorable either.

I will try the next book in this series to give it a chance but if it's not better than this one I'm sending it back and giving up on the rest or the books. And I'm being sceptical from now on buying Glynn Stewart's other series. He and Christopher Nuttall are not auto-buys as not everything they write is something I want to read (like Lois Bjold, whom I enjoy even if it's not her best writing).

Fast pace and exciting!! I enjoyed every minute of it. looking forward to the next book.

It is very good, fast paced, enjoyed it, had to listen to it till the end, even after I stopped driving.

The narrator is outstanding and engaging with the book and listeners. On to book 4.

Good book

I enjoyed it for the most part but a few areas were mildly cliched. Overall a good book.
