Publisher's summary

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me. Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world---and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker...and this one decided that the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead. Turns out my savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now I've traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred-year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude---and servitude. Right. But my burgeoning powers (all of a sudden, I'm surprisingly handy with some serious weaponry), an inconvenient sunlight allergy, and Ethan's attitude are the least of my concerns. Someone's still out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches? My initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war---and there will be blood.

Bite into another Chicagoland Vampires novel.

So so

This first installment was good enough I suppose, a bit fragmented here and there, and the story was a little fragmented. After listening to this first book I wasn't going to continue with the series, however I picked up the second book in the sale and it was much better.

Good but slow at times

I was intrigued enough to listen to additional books in the series, and they do get better. I enjoyed the overall story, but it was slow at times. I think the characters have good potential, hopefully they will reach that potential.

Unfortunately agree with some of the reviews

I am finishing a second book and unfortunately agree with reviewers about very shallow story and no connection (or no believable connection) among the characters, immature dialogs. English is a second language for me, so I am not usually very sensitive to a choice of words used to describe various actions or feelings. I found myself cringing more than once by the choices in these serious, as the author trying to prove extra hard that she is intelligent...

I actually enjoyed the narration and don't think anybody could make the story better with a different narration.

Loved this story and the narrator.

I loved this story and the narrator. There were a couple of chapters that were almost hard to listen while driving as they were racked with sexual chemistry. Nothing graphic. Just pure attraction. I felt that I was part of the journey becoming a newly born vampire. Not just a vampire, but a strong above average vampire that sees things in her own unique way. Loved the story. My first rating of all 5's.

The narration was one of the best I've listed to so far. Will look for more books by this narrator.

This book is not a true romance

I must admit that the overall story, is a good one. However, the Heroine does not get her romance. She doesn’t get her HEA; not now, anyway. This is not a vampire story full is sexy scenes. There is only one brief scene of voyeurism, and it does not involve the Heroine. Honestly, not that I am a shallow person, but this was a bit of a disappointment. I guess it’s because I enjoy the sensual air in most paranormal romances and I missed it. I’m going to continue with the series and see where it takes the story, however.

Good story

The story is good and I found it hard to put down. The narrator's performance was good as well. The only disappointment was the very poor editing. It was so bad I almost stopped listening to the book. A lot of words were clipped off at the end. It was very noticeable and it detracted from the story. Still worth it.
