Publisher's summary

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me. Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world---and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker...and this one decided that the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead. Turns out my savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now I've traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred-year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude---and servitude. Right. But my burgeoning powers (all of a sudden, I'm surprisingly handy with some serious weaponry), an inconvenient sunlight allergy, and Ethan's attitude are the least of my concerns. Someone's still out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches? My initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war---and there will be blood.

Bite into another Chicagoland Vampires novel.

Loved the story line but not the narrator.

Loved the story line but not the narrator. The narrator used the same condescending tone throughout the entire story instead of using a variety of tones throughout the book.

similar to bodice ripper formula

Where does Some Girls Bite rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

He's a jerk, She's attracted to him but fortunately it deviates from most bodice rippers. Except for falling for a studly jerk the female character is smart and strong minded. The story is interesting but sometimes a bit melodramatic. Could use a bit more character development. Still I'm glad I bought the book even If i'll probably listen to it just once. I plan to buy the next 2 in the series but I don't know if I'll follow through to the end.

Would you recommend Some Girls Bite to your friends? Why or why not?

No. I'm not into studly jerks for male leads.

Which character – as performed by Cynthia Holloway – was your favorite?

The Sentinel

Any additional comments?

if she'd fallen into bed with him and lost her brains and independence as a result I would not have bought the next in the series. I'm interested enough in what happens next to start book 2.

Starts slow but pulls you in

At first I thought... more harlequin romance version of jane yellowrock... heroine acted too young for her age of 28 and her abilities too Mary Sue miraculous. As the book went on it improved and characters started to deepen. It’s lightweight, but im looking forward to reading the next in the series to see how it develops

Enjoyable

I liked the book. The premise was interesting with a few changes from the regular 'vampire' mythos and I liked the characters. I would have enjoyed seeing a little more of the material Merit was studying as a grad student but that's just personal preference. I didn't guess who the bad guy was until the very end and I'm looking forward to listening to the next book. I always enjoy listening to Cynthia Holloway as a narrator.

Great story, wonderful voice...

Would you listen to Some Girls Bite again? Why?

but the pronunciation b-l-o-w-s. Seriously. When unsure, look it up, and pay attention to the pronunciation. It counts, and it can make or break the story.

Good Characters

What made the experience of listening to Some Girls Bite the most enjoyable?

Neill's characters were great. Merrit was a strong lead, Mallory was a great best friend, I loved Grandpa, and of course all the men :-)

Would you be willing to try another book from Chloe Neill? Why or why not?

Yes. I would be interested in reading the second book in this series

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. I enjoyed the book well enough, but wasn't overly taken with it. Some stuff was funny, but I had no strong emotions either way.

Any additional comments?

While the characters were great, the plot was just okay. The whole take on Vampires was much different than anything I've ever read. Having been in a sorority myself, the whole initiation/rushing process was humorous and original to Vampires. But the big reveal at the end as to who the killer was, was a let down. All-in-all a good book with great characters and an okay plot!

Not quite monotone but close

What did you like best about Some Girls Bite? What did you like least?

I liked the humor of the book and the history behind the house system. I didn't like the lack of action. Though this was a mistake on my part as I thought this was urban fantasy instead of paranormal romance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Jeff the shape shifter. Loved his geeky wannabe ladies man personality.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Cynthia Holloway?

no. she had a couple of voices but I had to keep rewinding because I could never get into her reading.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

Any additional comments?

I've listened to other narrators who can draw me into the story Dick Hill and James Marsters come to mind but that didn't happen with this one. With this book I had to download a copy of the ebook from the library and read most of the second half for myself.
