Publisher's summary

All-new action in the number-one New York Times best-selling urban fantasy series.

When mechanic and shapeshifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down. It seems the book contains secret knowledge - and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands.

And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side - leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit.

All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn't careful, she might not have many more to live.

Have Mercy: listen to another Mercy Thompson chiller.

Critic reviews

“If the term ‘ass-kicking chick’ has ever found a more apt heroine I - well, I can’t think of who. These are fantastic adventures and Mercy reigns.” (SFRevu)

“Filled with action, romance, and fae intrigue...another entertaining entry in a strong saga. However, it is Patricia Briggs’ world-building skills on a par with early Laurell K. Hamilton that make Silver Borne a winner.” (Midwest Book Review)

“Exciting...Briggs creates both well-rounded characters and a complex mythology, resulting in a rich read that’s far more than a series of action adventures strung together.” (Publishers Weekly)

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Would you consider the audio edition of Silver Borne to be better than the print version?

Never read the print one, but I bet it is!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silver Borne?

When Zee turns into his fae shape,,,so cool!

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

all of the Mercy series!!! love her!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I practically did!! lol

Any additional comments?

Mercy is a great heroine....she is tough, and has a good heart...I recommend this entire series...The writing is smart, eloquent, and has romance, without being trash...I loved it!!!

More Trouble for Mercy

Silver Borne is an excellent Mercy Thompson book. It has a lot of plot around the pack, good romance between her and Bran, and a compelling story with all our favorite creatures. We get the fay, vampires, and our werewolves. It's good urban fantasy with some romance. It feels like two separate plots that don't really interconnect, but there are some hooks that keep you interested the whole way through. I think the series is really starting to hit it's stride. Lorelei King is stellar as Mercy and the whole cast. She does a great job bringing life and suspense to the characters.

No spoilers

Yet another well written story by MS Briggs. Each and every character is written well and each book flushes out a bit more on each of them. Mercy is a strong willed lovable character with flaws. This book has Lots of romance, suspense, action and drama. Can't get enough. MS King dose a fantastic job at narration. She tells the story in a smooth voice, each and every character is done with a unique voice that brings the book to life. Highly recommend both Briggs and King. Great story writing along with Great narration you can't go wrong.

loved it...just wish it had been a little longer

In Silver Borne, Mercy is dealing with the growing relationship between her and her mate, Adam and the problems that relationship is causing within his pack, but in typical Mercy fashion, she doesn't just have a small helping of trouble on her plate - it's a plate of trouble big enough for a werewolf - and in this case, the added helpings of trouble are the suicidal Samuel and the missing Phin, bookstore owner and part fae who lent Mercy a book about fae and who has now disappeared.

I enjoyed reading about the growth in Mercy's character after a lifetime of independence and the way she copes with a horrifying incident in a previous novel continues to impress me. I love that the character of Mercy continues to grow and evolve in a very real way during the series, and I appreciate that as a reader. I was particularly delighted with everything in this book related to the pack and Adam and her struggles with Samuel. Experiencing Mercy's intelligence and her willingness to open up even more of herself to Adam was fantastic. Hearing her call him her Hero was even better. I can't praise Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson series enough. I just wish the books were a little longer..1 credit on a book that's not even 5 hours long..its over way to soon. Lorelei King does a fanstatic job as the narrator as ususal. Highly recommend.

Great reader

Meghan, the books are read by one person; there is no "male lead" nor a male reading at all in the Mercedes Thompson series. A male actor reads Briggs's other series, Alpha and Omega, but he also does all the parts--even the female ones. I personally think Loralei does an EXCELLENT job of voicing the characters so it's easy to tell who's speaking.

Another great book!

Would you listen to Silver Borne again? Why?

Yes I would. It is well written with very good character definition. It is hard to put down.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Silver Borne?

Patricia Briggs goes more in depth in the fairy world. I love learning about the different groups in Mercy's life.

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

I like all the voices Lorelei King does. However, I think my favorite is Zee's voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I definitely wanted to listen to this in one sitting. I turned it on every chance I could get.

Any additional comments?

Patricia Briggs and Lorelei King have become my favorite author and performer! I thought I had a favorite author who has written 26 books, but Patricia is so much better!
