Publisher's summary

All-new action in the number-one New York Times best-selling urban fantasy series.

When mechanic and shapeshifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down. It seems the book contains secret knowledge - and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands.

And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side - leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit.

All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn't careful, she might not have many more to live.

Have Mercy: listen to another Mercy Thompson chiller.

Critic reviews

“If the term ‘ass-kicking chick’ has ever found a more apt heroine I - well, I can’t think of who. These are fantastic adventures and Mercy reigns.” (SFRevu)

“Filled with action, romance, and fae intrigue...another entertaining entry in a strong saga. However, it is Patricia Briggs’ world-building skills on a par with early Laurell K. Hamilton that make Silver Borne a winner.” (Midwest Book Review)

“Exciting...Briggs creates both well-rounded characters and a complex mythology, resulting in a rich read that’s far more than a series of action adventures strung together.” (Publishers Weekly)

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Highly recommend

I finished listening to Moon Called (the 1st book in this series) and immediately bought the whole series in print and read them all in a week. I then bought the audio of the 5th book, Silver Borne, because i loved it so much. To me the 1st and 5th were the best, but the whole series is extremely well done. Wasnt crazy about the voice of the male lead in Moon Called but for the record by Silver Borne this narrator was in her stride and every voice was perfectly suited to the characters. Other great thing about these as audio is that they are not that long but long enough. LOVED THIS BOOK. Nice steamy ending too though this one is the only one in the series that were really focused on romance. FYI- the rumor is there will be a 6th book in 2011. I checked!

This Series Just Keeps Getting Better!

I have turned into a huge fan of Patricia Briggs.
Her stories are always fast paced and very interesting.
In "Silver Borne" we get a little more romance, than in the previous books. Which only makes the story, that much better.
All the "Mercy" books are narrated by, Lorelei King. She does a great job of adding depth to the story. Her narration makes "Mercy" come alive.
I would recommend this book.

Just okay for me....

The series is usually pretty action packed and the stories are very well thought out and sculpted with a few twists and turns. For this book I felt like the story was a little stagnant. I felt like I was getting a lot of explainations and not a lot of story. Please stop explaining werewolf dominance. It's the fifth book. We get it already. She is still giving explanations for concepts that we already learned in previous books. Constant explanations about dominance is not interesting. By now I thought she would have delved a little more into Mercy and her power as a walker instead there's a lot of talk about dominance/submission. I'm waiting for Mercy to start kicking but and growing into her pack status. I would also love to see her walker power fully develop into something more powerful. Despite being annoyed by the dominance thing, I would still say listen to/read the book. There are some things about the fae that are interesting.

The Best One Yet

I read hundreds of books, including listening to several a week. Well narrated, excellent writing is Such a Joy and all too rare! I hope the quality of this series continues, even as the quantity increases. Patrica Briggs' books are credits well spent.

Silver Borne

Wonderful series! The author and the reader are an incredible team. This series is a great mixture of fantasy, suspense, action and romance. The characters are really rich and fun. The romance between the two main characters really enhances the story, but doesn't bog the story down. I don't read romance novels, but a little romance and sex in a book like this is fun. The author develops the romance between the two characters thru the series and makes it intriguing to watch. It's fun, sexy and easy to believe. Each book is complete enough to stand alone, but it's better to read the books in order since some things are built on what occurred in a previous book, but not dependent on it. The reader is really good and is able to develop voices and stay true to them thru the series; you know exactly who is speaking all the time. I highly recommend this series and have to a lot of people!

Another winner!

Patricia Briggs has me addicted! Mercy is strong, independent and fully capable of the deepest love and loyalty to her friends and family. She is so real in her struggles to maintain her own identity while adapting to the sometimes claustrophobic ties to her new pack. It's so easy to take a work of fantasy fiction and make it so mystical and other-worldly that the characters seem out of reach. I never thought I would say this, but I can really relate with this shape-shifting coyote. LOL. I wish these books would never end.

I can't put it down

It took a little bit of time to get into it, but I can't stop listening. It's bad when you listen to it while running and at work! I like the fact that the series isn't repetitive like other serial romance novels. I can't wait until the next one!

Awkward and Halting

Two different story lines that don't blend at all. Back and forth with no connection.
