Publisher's summary

In the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, a lone survivor faces a grave new threat as even the undead begin to disappear, in this sequel to Mountain Man.

Ever since the end of civilization, Gus Berry has spent his days waking up, getting drunk, and preparing for the inevitable zombie attack on his mountain fortress. Occasionally, he must take his life in his hands and venture into the undead world below in search of supplies.

These days, Gus is accustomed to the mortal threats he encounters. He has steeled himself against the corpse-infested streets, human scavengers, and unending loneliness. But now something new and strange is happening: the zombies are disappearing.

It seems a mysterious new threat is assembling—something even more relentless and terrifying than the roaming tides of dead flesh. And it’s preparing to hunt . . .

Makes you want to stop drinking..at times..

OK, I admit that I am somewhat obsessed with RC Bray, and certainly, this series exhibits his narration skills at their finest. Given the very intense content he has to work with here, it is not surprising that the series is rapidly becoming one of Audibles' most popular dystopian offerings. Yes, it is profane, and at times gratuitously violent. Yes, the majority of the characters have few redeeming qualities. Yes, there are some stretches that require significant suspension of disbelief.

But getting by all that, the story arc, and the principal character's underlying "goodness" and the brilliant performance more than makes up for it all. Highly recommended ( and yes, I think I will have some rum now, come to think of it! )

definitely a book for guys

well I got to admit it was still a good book still exactly what I expected male humor. the climax was unexpected not going to give anything away different but in an okay way all in all I knew what I was getting into and I still enjoyed it the narrator does an excellent job the story it drags a little bit from point to point but oh no it's worth a read if that's what you're into

Pretty Cool

I'm still really liking this story so far. I found the bit about the disappearing corpses and the reason for it rather interesting. Never heard that one before in any other zombie story.

One of.. if not the best, series out there

I’ve listened to over 1,000 books on here and have never taken to leave a review, but I guess it’s time.. I’ve done a few hundred post apocalyptic/zombie types, This series is up there with my top two or three. I put it up there with the the Lee Harden/ remaining series “Arisen” series, (“wolves”-Christian Rummell narrator,)and “hell divers,” And among those listed, I’d probably rank mountain man as my favorite.. I’ve re-listened to the mountain man series a few times while waiting on something new/ good to come out. I guess that’s how you know it’s good in my opinion..

where the heck is scott??

ok I did like this book - good plot, well written, deeper character building, and disturbing - everything a good zombie story needs. But what the heck happened to Scott? What a big miss not allowing us to continue following his story.

It was entertaining

Started off great. The pace of the story was pitch perfect in places but there were times when it became contrived and forced. Lurching from one crisis to another due to decisions that someone who has made it through a zombie apocalypse just wouldn’t make.
