Publisher's summary

When a mythical world threatens everything, an unlikely hero must join the battle.

College senior Aaron Jace is ready to start life in the real world. After the unexpected death of his grandfather, Aaron finds an unbelievable note that will change his world. The unknowing descendent of an ancient and powerful family, Aaron is thrust into a struggle that began long ago and will reach across worlds to pull him into the fight.

When he learns of the world of Safanar, it seems to be the stuff of legends: dragons, castles, and technologically-advanced cities. But it's as much a dream as it is a nightmare. Danger lurks in the shadows, and a demon sentinel named Tarimus wants to steal Aaron's power before he can learn his full potential.

With the help of an imprisoned Safanarion guardian, two mystical swords, and a puzzling family heirloom, Aaron must journey from Earth to find the fabled land of his ancestors. It may be a path that's impossible to survive.

A book in dire need of ritalin

What disappointed you about Road to Shandara?

- The lack of epilogue really seems to make this story hard to follow. There's no build up to that events happening. "Hi I'm a guy who likes jeeps... oh crap things just went sideways and I'm a master swordsman! Hear me roar as I go avenge all my family members that we introduced mainly by sleeping through all their stories"- The lack of depth to any of the characters, especially the protagonist (Aaron); At 3 hrs in your barely know anything that makes the protagonist tick. By that point I should be rooting for him! I should care why he's going on his journey.- Story Progression; The whole story seems on fast forward without taking anytime to build a rapport with the protagonist or even disdain for the antagonist.

Has Road to Shandara turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not at all, I love reading books of all genres and I'm fairly fond of Fantasy and Sci-Fi. I just found this one lacking in all the areas that are most important.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Vikas Adam?

I would definitely give him another chance. I honestly had so much trouble trying to figure out if it was the performance or the performer. But switching between my kindle and audible I started realizing the writing made Vikas Adam's job very hard.

What character would you cut from Road to Shandara?

I wouldn't, but I would add an editor. This book could be great, it just needs some big picture guidance.

Any additional comments?

Author needs to look up Sanderson's 318R series, specifically #2 Chef vs Cook. Not saying he needs to write like Sanderson (I'd only read Sanderson if I wanted that), but it's a class environment with folks discussion how to make you sympathetic and interested into the characters and story. That is truly where this story lost me, I just could not care about Aaron (protagonist) or his situation.

AWESOME! FANTASTIC. MAGIC, DRAGONS AND ACTION!

Most enjoyable fantasy book yet. The hero of the story is fantastic. He has principles and he is a true leader. Drawn into another world totally different from his own after the death of grandfather and he learnt that he is the last scion of his lineage. He fight to help the people who are suffering from the aggressors and very soon have a group of people who believe in him and are willing to fight with him to right the wrongs done to his people. A vey well written book with strong characters, beautiful dialogue and well performed by Vikas Adam, an excellent narrator/performer. Waiting for book 2 to come out on June 27.

The decline

Story started out great all the way up to the end. The ending ruined the entire story.
