Publisher's summary

The White Council of Wizards has drafted Harry Dresden as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in Chicago. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in the Windy City, but it's all in a day's work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob.

Critic reviews

"One of the most enjoyable marriages of the fantasy and mystery genres on the shelves.” (Cinescape)

“Butcher...spins an excellent noirish detective yarn in a well-crafted, supernaturally-charged setting. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry’s wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot." (Booklist)

Enjoy

If you're reading this, I'm guessing that you're well familiar with this series. If only we could convince Mr. Butcher to continue writing this world forever.

Anyhow, this book is a good look into Dresden'o motivations, and how families that may look perfect are still individuals at their core.

Enjoy. You're in good company.

Well, my company, at least.

Knight in shining fire!!

What can i say. Proven Guilty has harry coming to the rescue of a beautiful princess. Well, sort of. This book was once again fun and exciting, non stop action and suspense. The series itself just keeps getting better and for me has caught up to the the iron druid chronicles for pure entertainment value and surpassed it in just about every other way. The story has branched out in all directions and we are left with a zillion possibilities as to how harry and his friends will move forward. Im looking forward to the next step in the story and if the trend continues each one will continue to gain momentum and quality. Go Harry!!

narrator tone shifts occasionally

The narrator's voice was great but sometimes he'd suddenly switch tones (like he would go from "speaking" voice to "internal dialog" voice within a speech, but the whole thing was audible to other characters...maybe?) and it could occasionally be confusing if there weren't enough context cues.

The story was tense and high stakes with a lot of the last minute twists that we've come to love in the Dresden series. Really enjoy the development of characters.

Another excellent installment

The only character left in the series so far that I did not like was Charity. I should know better by now, if you don't like a character, especially a female one, they will get much better at some point. This was Charity's book to shine.
James Marsters as the reader was, as always, amazing.
