Publisher's summary

The White Council of Wizards has drafted Harry Dresden as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in Chicago. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in the Windy City, but it's all in a day's work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob.

Critic reviews

"One of the most enjoyable marriages of the fantasy and mystery genres on the shelves.” (Cinescape)

“Butcher...spins an excellent noirish detective yarn in a well-crafted, supernaturally-charged setting. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry’s wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot." (Booklist)

love love love

I love how Dresden both relates to and feels for rebellious youth yet still has many of the same "overbearing" tendencies that "controlling authority figures do." yet while you know the other characters don't have the benefit of heating his internal voice, somehow everyone knows where that overbearing nature is coming from. he strongly values the privilege of choice. but push come to shove, he puts that value aside not only for the benefit of others like many controlling figures. he also seems to do it while somehow still conveying that he highly values the privelege of choices and will return those privileges at the soonest point clear of danger.

A Profound Entry!

Definitely my favorite narrative of the Dresden Files so far. There is a definite subtext to this book that felt lacking in the others. The theme of Justice is clear from the first page to the last. Jim Butcher has definitely outdone himself with this one!

I loved this book

This is an excellent book. If there's a sequel, I'm definitely going to buy it. The story and the performance was wonderful. The story started slow and I almost stopped listening to it. I'm glad I finished. It was well worth my time. I encourage any one on the fence about purchasing the book, to jump right it. You won't regret it.

Another homerun by Jim and James

great read Jim Butcher never disappoints. The characters are lifelike and believable. The suspense is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

Good Job

I must admit that this series have grown and have developed into a pretty decent story line. I thought there for a while that the author would run in classic story lines. Leaving the main character as some one wandering like the old TV series “The Fugitive “. Look it up, kids. But no. Harry Dresden is some one who stays and fights to maintain who he is. As well as staying where he feels he belongs. Not like “The Rebel” or “Then Came Bronson”. Other shows to look up, kids.

Go Team Dresden

Poor Harry. He can't even build a model without putting his life on the line. This was a busy book. Allot has happened with Team Dresden in not that much time, and some big changes too. The story just keeps getting bigger
