Publisher's summary

The White Council of Wizards has drafted Harry Dresden as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in Chicago. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in the Windy City, but it's all in a day's work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob.

Critic reviews

"One of the most enjoyable marriages of the fantasy and mystery genres on the shelves.” (Cinescape)

“Butcher...spins an excellent noirish detective yarn in a well-crafted, supernaturally-charged setting. The supporting cast is again fantastic, and Harry’s wit continues to fly in the face of a peril-fraught plot." (Booklist)

Same old dresden

Not my favorite story so far, but good building blocks to the series. If you're this far hopefully you have listened to James Marsters already.

Good but cuts off

Any additional comments?

Good reading of an amazing book as usual but it cuts off about a page or two before the story ends. Very frustrating.

Molly, Molly, Molly!

Would you listen to Proven Guilty again? Why?

Yes! It is awesome and its one of those books I could read/listen to over and over and over again

What was one of the most memorable moments of Proven Guilty?

When Harry schooled The Merlin and beat him as his own game. I really do not like that guy!

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to James with the Dresden Files and he is just phenomenal!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Where can you escape when horror films come to life?

Maybe the best yet in the series

I was slow to warm to this series, but seems to finally be hitting an interesting stride. I feel like the author has really improved since the first book in the series as well.

This isn't just a rehash of a formula and just the next book in a series, everything seems to be evolving nicely.

A little formulaic

The books so far have been good. The writing is good and the story is good. I just don't really see much development in the main character as a person or a hero. Same attack over and over again. No personality development.

Great read

Best in series so far, cleans up several loose ends and sets the stage for something major.

Oh Harry, you're such a good guy

Harry's a Warden now with a new quest, to keep his dearest friend's daughter safe from the evil that has snatched her away. This story has all his close buds helping, and we see a new side of Charity that was a pleasant surprise. Typical Harry Dresden adventure, which doesn't disappoint fans, and another gold star for James Marsters, whom has made it impossible for me to read a single Dresden book. He's Harry, and that's all there is to it.

GO HARRY GO

Once again I'm caught listening at lunch in the car and well after my break is over. I think I'm in love! I can't get enough of Harry and the crew. Always new and interesting twists in each installment and I can't wait to finish one installment and start the next. I guarantee you will become addicted. Clean fun listening. Won't kill any brain cells...but I won't grow any new ones either. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Highly recommend the full series so far!

Book 8 and still going strong

I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far and I think this particular book might be one of my favourites.
I particularly like the novels involving the Carpenter family and this one does not disappoint.
Great plot and lots of twists and turns to keep the story from becoming boring.
From the city to Winter Fairly land, favourite characters are brought back into the story and as always, James Marsters's wonderful narration just adds to the quality, emotion and suspence of the story.
I recommend this series of books to anyone who loves fantasy or sci fi fiction.
Only four more books to go...and I know I will be waiting on tenderhooks for book 13!

Great Wizard Series

Jim Butcher is awesome. One of the best series Ever. However, I wish he could give Dresden a little down time occasionally... poor guy never even gets to sleep, much less Sleep With someone... seriously a terrific book... love the reintroduction of characters.
