Publisher's summary

Paul of Dune is a sci-fi adventure novel everyone will want to read and no one will be able to forget. "Scott Brick delivers a powerful and entertaining reading reminiscent of a theatrical performance in a brilliant one-man show. Brick's voice is ideally suited to this extraordinary tale; no doubt he studied the prose of each novel to capture the dialect perfectly. This is a superb, solid reading that will appeal to fans and newcomers alike." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

Frank Herbert's Dune ended with Paul Muad'Dib in control of the planet Dune. Herbert's next Dune book, Dune Messiah, picked up the story several years later after Paul's armies had conquered the galaxy. But what happened between Dune and Dune Messiah? How did Paul create his empire and become the Messiah? Following in the footsteps of Frank Herbert, New York Times best-selling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are answering these questions in Paul of Dune.

The Muad'Dib's jihad is in full swing. His warrior legions march from victory to victory. But beneath the joy of victory there are dangerous undercurrents. Paul, like nearly every great conqueror, has enemies - those who would betray him to steal the awesome power he commands...

And Paul himself begins to have doubts: Is the jihad getting out of his control? Has he created anarchy? Has he been betrayed by those he loves and trusts the most? And most of all, he wonders: Am I going mad?

balls

The story was probably ill-advised from the outset. The best charecters already dead, the good part of the story already told, this sequel to the first Dune was difficult for me to finish.

Difficult to follow, and a little bland

Scott Brick is amazing as always- but the book didn't serve so well to fill the gaps between Dune, and Messiah, as showing long periods of flash-backs where it almost becomes difficult to know which time period the story is currently in. The overall story was somewhat bland, without the flash-backs, the story would have been considerably shorter, and it shows. If you really enjoy the Dune universe though, you'll probably still enjoy this book, as I have.

Better than expected... at parts

The last part was better than expected but each segment leading up to it was less than enjoyable. Getting through this book was a chore.

This book does attempt a more solid linkage between the original works and those of the literary heirs in some sense but not in a way that would merit ever recommendations.

Great performance.

IT started off very slow.

Struggled to finish the book, there was allot of inaccurate information, and for a book about Paul hes rarely in the stories, i expected filler, but this was just not the best, the ending was difficult, as well, dont buy it.

Backstory

Fills in a lot of missing intel on Paul’s rise to power and how he handled all the pressure

ANOTHER GREAT

Great book. narrator is easy to follow and the story is intense. I'd like to see this as a series on Netflix.

JUST OK, reluctant 4 stars....

Decently written but unremarkable Dune rehash, meant to pick up where Dune left off, that never manages to engage. No further insights into the vividly drawn characters from Dune, in fact they all seem rather sterile. Paul & company are disenchanted with the direction things have taken, and you will be too. If you're a Dune junkie, you may want to read this. Otherwise, probably wise to skip.

A bit bland at time but important events

This book takes place after Dune but before the 2 sequel books of the original trilogy. I appreciated this book for revealing important events immediately following Dune but this book is far from the quality of the original trilogy. It has some painfully dry parts at times and the pacing between the dull details and climactic moments feels like stop and go traffic. But I'm still glad I stuck it through. This book's contributions to the events of Dune was worth it.
Narrator note: there were a few times where the narrator would mix up his assigned voices for certain characters which made keeping the characters straight harder than it was to begin with.
