Publisher's summary

Condemned and shunned for black magic, Rachel Morgan has three days to get to the annual witches' conference and clear her name, or be trapped in the demonic ever-after - forever after.

But a witch, an elf, a living vampire, anda pixy in one car, going across the country? Talk about a recipe for certain disaster, even without being the targets for assassination.

For after centuries of torment, a fearsome demon walks in the sunlight, freed at last to slay the innocent and devour their souls. But his ultimate goal is Rachel Morgan, and in the fight for survival that follows, even embracing her own demonic nature may not be enough to save her.

One of the best in the series

I stayed up all night listening to the last 7 1/2 hours of this book. It was a good one!

On the fence-

I loved the first few books of this series. Strong female lead- magic- all types of fantasy creatures and awesome friends. But as the story has progressed, Rachel has just started getting weak, whining, and being uncertain about what she wants. This book started slow but opened up in the middle. I enjoyed the route the author took but now I’m on the fence if I want to continue. One of those series where u just want to know how it ‘ends-ends’. Love the world- characters- and overall performance. Just don’t know if I can keep going with the uncertainty and bs.

Road Trip Hell

This is my favorite in the series so far. You get to spend three days on a road trip with Jenks, Rachel, Ivy, and Trent Calamack as they face the biggest challenges so far.

A terrible evil is unleashed and causes battles so ugly that they still linger in my memory months later. Captivating, exciting, and heart pounding! It is a brilliant listen!!!!

Is the childish bickering finally over?

An alternative reality caused by a GM tomato-induced pandemic with transgenic witches, tycoon elves, and libertine demons? What???s not to love? Kim Harrison consistently writes tight and interesting stories, and Pale Demon is a solid addition to the Rachel Morgan series. In this book, some long-standing issues start to be resolved, but when did Rachel get so dumb? Al and Trent are back and still fantabulous. Pierce is back and still annoying. Unfortunately, Ivy???s character has lost some of its dimension, but Jinks is still full of Tinkerbell love. Of course, Marguerite Gavin is brilliant. Finally, a two-credit price for any book in this genre is ridiculous. Even ???A Game of Thrones??? by George R. R. Martin is only one credit and that is a long, award-winning book.

Love the series, love this book!

I love the characters, love the way they have developed, and this particular one is even better than I dared hope. Really. No kidding. Ms. Harrison has created a world that despite it's total improbability, I nonetheless find believable ... and very enjoyable. The relationship between characters and species is rich, complex and evolves from book to book. I sense that the author is beginning to head toward the end of the series. I hope I am wrong. I am a dedicated fan and look forward to each book, then read it multiple times in print and in audio. Great stuff folks.

Best one yet

As Rachel grows and matures and learns from her mistakes and successes, this book culminates many of the issues building until now. You'll see resolutions occur and new issues develop for the future. But most surprisingly, and yet again not, you'll see a relationship with Trent develop that begins with learning to trust one another. You'll see a side of Trent that hasn't been apparent until now and a compassion develop in Rachel for him and a new respect begin occur. The battles in this book are some of the most intense to date, and the emotions of the book are very infectious. And Rachel begins to accept who and what she is. No spoilers here. If you enjoy the series, you'll be enthralled by this installment.

DOH! Why'd it have to end!

The book was par with the other in the series. SPOILER ALERT: It was obvious there was a new love connection forming during the book. But they leave exploring that as a cliff hanger of sorts. Whaaa And I am curious as to what Rachael's decision will be regarding something else at the end of the book. Needless to say I hope the next book in the series comes SOON!! I have to know!
