The official novelization of the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim from visionary director Guillermo del Toro!
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, rise from the sea, a war begins that will take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
"I wanted to make not a war movie, but an adventure movie, with a huge, romantic sense of adventure, a sense of grandeur, and operatic battles...."
Guillermo Del Toro

Pacific Rim: The Official Movie Novelization is an action packed assault on what you think reality is, that is surprisingly character driven and not all big robots, big monsters, big battles. Oh man this is one to see in the theaters for sure. I have a feeling that the novelization did not do the enormity of this tale much justice, unless you have a very good imagination. From my understanding this was a straight to movie production and that makes me wonder how difficult it is to go backwards, meaning movie to book. No matter how easy or difficult this was a success. I just might be the type that will go for these types of audiobooks in the future. Pacific Rim: The Official Movie Novelization is really about the strength of the human will and our desire to survive no matter the cost, and of course how good will triumph over evil, even if all may seem lost.
great adaptation! The story itself is better than the film. On its own its an awesome listen if you're a fan of the genre!
I am a Psychology student with a passion for sci-fi, especially cyberpunk and near future dystopian societies.
Pacific Rim The Movie was a dream made real for a person like me, a fan of Asian monster movies and Manga mecha cartoons. No spoilers here. The story is simple, linear and breathtaking, with a wealth of detail and action that make it an unforgivable experience.
Starship Troopers, mostly for the pace, action and sci-fi, high power military environment.
I don’t have much experience with audible book so I can say it was adequate but a tad bit irritating when the male actor changes his voice to mimic a female voice, that aside, all in all was a good performance.
Yes, more than once.
The book is similar but with more details and a flashed out the world of Pacific Rim with some extra facts that help you expanding your movie experience.Even for a person who did not see the movie I feel this will be a great opportunity to enjoy a thrilling story with good characters and awesome action.

I bought this with some trepidation.
Usually adaptations are not well narrated or have a proper story.
That is not the case in this.
The story is really good and explains a lot of details absent in the movie.
Imagine the movie to be a preview trailer of this book.
Plus the narration is good and engrossing.

If you liked Pacific Rim the film, this book is all the missing pieces and juicy details you want to know about the story in PR. Deeper knowledge of the Kaiju, where they come from, who made them...and why...! Each character is more fully explained. A great addition of so many more story details!
Wow, every character jumps up to life... all with more depth. I love the love / hate Raleigh has with the whole world now. I love the two scientists. I think theyb really care for each other behind their constant fighting. I LOVED Hannibal Chau the pirate in the black market, though, "Ron Pearlman" cannot be surpassed by any reader, no matter how good. However, this character so enthralled me, I may get my missing tooth replaced with a gold one.
OK, sorry, this might be a "raciest" thing to say, but I will say it: I love the cool British toughness of Stacker Pentecost - and I was amazed that in the book it doesn't say he is black. While, in the film, black actor "Idris Elba" plays him to such perfection, I could not think of him as any one else. I went back and re-watched his performance in the film, and marveled at all the extra depth I got out of his character from the detail in the book, and his really wonderful performance. The best line in the book / movie: "First, Don't you ever touch me. Second, Don't you EVER touch me!" - the book and movie together enhanced my enjoyment of his masterful acting performance!
Really amazing...had to think sooo many pepole's voices came from so few. You get lost in the illusion.
Many... I got a LOT more emotional context of the characters. I got teared up at the end. Some go to their deaths, a fitting hero's end.
This book added so much more to a already fantastic movie! I would have this audio book (or even paper book) be a strongly urged listen /read after seeing the film - if you liked the film - you will LOVE the book. It fill in all the gaps...gives you all the history... names more monsters, tells U many things about the world you didn't know, really develops a whole new tragic and heroic world. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish it was the first book in a trilogy!
Closest I've come to returning a Sci Fi book. Narrator does his best, but it is the same scenario time after time. Too many holes in the plot to count. Good premise and some new ideas but woeful story and very cliched characters. Without the big screen demolition etc, just doesn't work.
Learn, understand, then decide whether you accept or reject.
This is my first movie novelization book, and I enjoyed how detailed it is without taking away from the moments that made the movie worth rewatching.
Simply an excellent movie adaptation! Superb narration as always by Alex Irving. Keep Irving if possible for next audio. Best for me was Beckett's handling of the aborted Gypsy test run? All fights were super!
4 stars is about right for the story. It was good but not great. Narrator was wonderful.
All in all if not other 5 star ratings you want to hear, then this is the one for you.
This is very entertaining audiobook and well narrated. If you enjoy science fiction, I think you'll like this book. It contains plenty of action, with pretty well developed characters.
That said, it is much better than the movie, and I can't recommend the movie at all.
