Publisher's summary

The official novelization of the sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim from visionary director Guillermo del Toro!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, rise from the sea, a war begins that will take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

"I wanted to make not a war movie, but an adventure movie, with a huge, romantic sense of adventure, a sense of grandeur, and operatic battles...."
—Guillermo Del Toro

Pacific Rim Sequel must follow soon.

Simply an excellent movie adaptation! Superb narration as always by Alex Irving. Keep Irving if possible for next audio. Best for me was Beckett's handling of the aborted Gypsy test run? All fights were super!

One of the excellent titles I have listened.

Like this book and the movie. I think both are excellent. The characters in the story are so vivid thou they are fiction.

On the Rim is where life and challenge meet

Great audiobook, almost as good as watching the movie 🎥. I recommend this book for any fan of Sci-fi

If you love the movie - you will love this.

It's like getting to ride the story for 9 hours. I can't say how many times I've watched the movie and this was feeding me all sorts of things I missed. I love it. Will listen to it again and again.

Call me a fanboy... But damn that was a GREAT audiobook!

Yes, I am a fanboy of the movie... And yes I have a thing for giant robots (so long as they don't come in the form of the idiotic Transformers), but with those two statements made, this movie novelization was actually a great audiobook! Honestly better than the movie (no small task, given that most movie novelizations are an afterthought at best). The performance was spot on and engaging. Well worth several listens.

Started good

Through the preface and first chapter I was into it. I was excited. Cool huge aliens coming up in the ocean and we have to figure out how to combat them. Then chapter two it changed gears and became a teen cry baby book. I hung on hoping it would return. I got into chapter six and could not keep my mind wondering to grass growing, my check book balance, what to eat for dinner, etc... I did not watch the movie, maybe that would have helped.

I am starting to notice the more popular reviewers love everything they hear. Guess, I will never be popular, cause crap is crap and I can't ignore it.

Rummel is one of the better narrators, no problem there.

All I wanted and more.

If you could sum up Pacific Rim in three words, what would they be?

Pacific Rim The Movie was a dream made real for a person like me, a fan of Asian monster movies and Manga mecha cartoons. No spoilers here. The story is simple, linear and breathtaking, with a wealth of detail and action that make it an unforgivable experience.

What other book might you compare Pacific Rim to and why?

Starship Troopers, mostly for the pace, action and sci-fi, high power military environment.

Have you listened to any of Christian Rummel and Jay Snyder ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don’t have much experience with audible book so I can say it was adequate but a tad bit irritating when the male actor changes his voice to mimic a female voice, that aside, all in all was a good performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, more than once.

Any additional comments?

The book is similar but with more details and a flashed out the world of Pacific Rim with some extra facts that help you expanding your movie experience.Even for a person who did not see the movie I feel this will be a great opportunity to enjoy a thrilling story with good characters and awesome action.

372.13% better than the movie

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time with the movie, get the Audio book. Well worth it if you feel like a bit of Sci-fi.

Awesome!

I liked this SO MUCH. The only thing I didn’t like was that some parts were different.
