Publisher's summary

When Regina's friends insist on setting her up a "Fantasy Fix" to help her get over her cheating ex, she dreams up some kinky out-of-this-world encounters that they could never possibly bring to life. But the next thing Regina knows, her friends have got her laced into a shiny black corset, tight leather pants, and a sexy pair of stilettos. It's time for some downtown vampire-fantasy fun...

The Vampire Ball in Manhattan's East Village isn't really Dmitri Vidame's idea of a good time, but as a member of the Council that governs the Others, he has to keep an eye on all the young vamps who prey on the pretenders. After he feasts his dark eyes on fiery Regina at the bar, he knows that he must have her. But for the first time Dmitri meets a woman who is more than a match for his indomitable will. And he may be the fantasy Regina hoped for...until she---and her feisty friends---discover her sexy new lover's bloodsucking secret.

Don't judge the entire Others series by Book 1

The Others series is actually quite good, although there are parts in the first book (One Bite With a Stranger) and even a couple in the next one (Big Bad Wolf) that resulted in cringing and were a bit difficult to get through. I look at it as enduring the growth process of the writer and being rewarded in the end for my troubles. This first book does have some really great stuff, but the sex scenes just miss the mark because they are a little too vulgar and/or a little too long and/or written in a way that makes what should be very hot kind of ... meh. Good news: The author does eventually figure it all out and achieves the right balance. Bad news: This starts happening in Book 2 and continues to improve in her later books.

HOWEVER, as far as the non-sex-related rest of the story goes, it is definitely worth the listen to get some background info and better understand the relationships of the characters as the series builds because you will see these people again in future installments. Also, you do have Kate Reading who is an amazing performer and one of the best narrators out there.

As an aside, I originally read Wolf at the Door because it was mistakenly listed as the first book in the series (though it is Book 8 or 9 actually), and I liked it enough to go back and listen to the earlier ones. Because of the bad reviews on OBWAS, I skipped it and got Big Bad Wolf before finally giving this one a try. Since I am not sure I would have stuck with the series if I had started with this one, my advice is either to start with this first book, knowing that the writing gets much better as the series progresses, or to just get the one that most interests you, as I believe they will all make enough sense to stand alone, and then see if that leads you to want to hear the entire series.

This Series went from SciFi Fantasy, to Erotica!

Not my favorite series in the world, but one I'll listen to in between other books. Usually there books are more of a light paranormal love stories with a bit of action, sex and "mating", with the envitable impossible love connection in the end. This one, well I have no problem with erotica, if that's what I'm wanting or expecting to listen to. But this book they took the sex scenes to a whole other level. It just went on and on and on and on and on. Instead of the book having a story with a few love scenes, this book had a huge sex scene with little doses of story. Ha ha! Even worse having one of my most adored narrators reading it. I just laughed. It was ridiculous.

It's ok

This review may be really personal and I heard it before listening that people could not finish the story. My main issue is with the main character and "assertiveness". I just could not stand these parts of the story. It doesn't mesh for me. It's like listening to someone who is really insecure expound on why they are so awesome. The sassy is faked by a complete airhead. I can only imagine that there is something as fated mates to make this guy so in love with someone who doesn't know themselves. I plowed through hoping that the next story is good as I have read in other reviews. To be continued....

Dissappointed

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have enjoyed numerous titles by the author, but this one just went on and on, just sex and not substance. Very little to do with the Others character development. I hope the last 3 I downloaded are better.

Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Warren again?

Yes, in hopes that the experience will be more like 1-4 of this series.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was fine

What character would you cut from One Bite With a Stranger?

Both main characters.

Any additional comments?

I just wanted it to be over.

Fifty Shades of a Vampire

Although this series has the potential to become formulaic, this first book should NOT be missed, even if you elect to discontinue listening to the rest of the series.

It puts an interesting twist on seduction while weaving a plot that stands up to most and surpasses many more of the worn-out writers who rely on titillation and angst to carry a flimsy plotline.

I enjoyed how this story took something from Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew and blended it with the well-seasoned sex we saw in Fifty Shades of Grey.

Let’s see how well this series continues.

The Narrator, Kate Reading, does a fine job on Male/Female voice as well as Character differentiations and gets better on accents and word pronunciations as the book goes on.

All in all I give this book a substantial 4 across the board.

What took me so long???

OK, so clearly this series started a while ago.....and yet, I had not picked it up. That's the "bad" part. The good part is that I now have many great books to look forward to! More good news....the narrator is fantastic, with both male and female characters. How lucky am I?

This series kicks off strongly with Dmitri and Reggie's story. The plot development is good, though it borders on too light with some of the characters that I know will have their own story later in the series. But, none of us want to listen to hours on end of background and set-up though either, so perhaps Ms. Warren played this smart. There has to be enough interaction to keep us turning the proverbial page.....right?

Can't wait to hear more -- really....I just bought books two and three to keep my fix going. Thank you, Ms. Warren, for introducing me to your new world of OTHERS. The theme may be common (vampires, shifters, etc.), however, your writing is anything but! There are laugh out loud moments on practically every page! I feel like I'm friends with Regina, Ava, and the gang already!

Sexy

Over all a light hearted book and it was enjoyable. While there is a lot of sex in this book, the story line was cute. The writer has some interesting people in this book that I would like to see more about. The narrator is very good and added much to the listening. If you are looking for a good enjoyable book with a lot of sex, then this is the book for you.

Raunchy sex. Awful!

The beginning of the book was raunchy sex with little or no story line and it continued for much too long. It also depicted the heroin, Reggie, as being weak willed and easily manipulated by her friends. She had absolutlely no backbone which made her undesirable as a heroin that made me want to continue with the book. In fact it was so awful that, if I hadn't been familiar with other books in this series, I would have stopped listening and never bought another Christine Warren book. Even the ending was abrupt. It just ended.

The only saving grace is the narrator, Kate Reading, who did a fabulous job with accents and vocal characterization.

What story? What happened to the "Others" story?

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I've enjoyed the rest of the series but I'm only at about 1 1/2 hours into it but had to come back to see the other reviews. Yep. It's just erotica. So far there's not much of a story. I think I'll skip to the next book and I will read the reviews before I buy anymore of the series.

Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Warren again?

Yes, but I'll read the reviews first.

What about Kate Reading???s performance did you like?

She's great. Not sure how she could keep a straight face while doing the 'Dracula' voice.

Terrible Story.

This story was not so good. I couldn't even finish this book. I wish I would have listened to the reviews and just skipped this one, it has turned me off to the rest of the series.
The narrator was fine.
