Publisher's summary

An io9 Can't Miss Science Fiction and Fantasy title in March 2014.

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin…and not, y’know, die or anything.

It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Awesome book for Developers

I used to work as a security guard so I had a lot of time to listen to podcasts and audio books. I don't have nearly as much time anymore, so I haven't put in much effort to keep listening. This is the first audio book I've been able to listen all the way through in at least a year. It was exciting and funny and the mystery is good enough to keep you intrigued. I had a lot of fun with this. they have a few nods to computer nerds and programmers that might not interest others, but I loved it. Really worth the purchase.

Fun and quirky, but definitely not hard sci-fi

It's a really cool premise, but not at all what I was expecting. If you're looking for a fun adventure novel that doesn't take itself too seriously, you might find this enjoyable. If you're looking for hard sci-fi, rational fiction, or high fantasy though you should look elsewhere.

off to a great performance of a great story

loved the idea of the story, loved the pretence, felt some of the characters were very tropeish. but it was beleavable since the whole group was a bunch of lovable nerds ^_^

Childish

Boring and meandering, this teenage fantasy seems to go nowhere and squanders an interesting premise.

Very creative

A great deal of imagination! A fun trek of a story. Rrquires a touch of computer background to fully appreciate.

A fun read with a hilarious performance

Not knowing what to expect when I began this book, I was reminded of the first time I read the Onion. Context is everything, and realizing this was intentionally, albeit subtlety humorous, I was pleasantly surprised about an hour in. For those of you who find the initial setup a bit implausible, your patience will be awarded if you wait until the introduction of Philip. Performance wise, this was one of the funniest narrations I’ve ever enjoyed.

Good, not perfect

Amazing performance but Atlantis is repetitive. The stories saving grace is jimmy and the agents story

Fun but silly

Not quite a LITRPG but almost in the same area. The writer loves to have fun with the characters that always makes very an entertaining read. The only odd thing about it for me is it reads kind of like how a children series does if that makes sense. Take any generic kids’ book that has a pro long story for example Artemis fowl or Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The pacing is similar where hey we got this wild adventure that we are about to go on, now we are on the adventure, now we are finishing the avenger. “Who one character says the other that was ridiculous.” 2nd character “Yep let us hope we never do that again.” It is very episodic where if you want to you could keep writing more stuff into this and it is not bad at all it just reminds me of how children's books would come out. An excellent read I feel like anyone who want something just fun to chill too would get a kick out of it what is that said there's poop humor you have been warned. It is kind of just a bunch of guys being a bunch of guys.

Fun

What a fun listen! It was totally nerdy & pretty silly but I loved it. It didn’t take itself too seriously and played well off of all the traditional fantasy I like. I’m off to get book 2.
